pure ethyl dehydrocholate, m.p. 221-223°, and an impure but different ester, m.p. 157-166°. The infrared spectra of these two substances in the range 1200-900 cm.-' showed an overall similarity but also definite differences.
Leaf wax of Little Club wheat is composed of: hydrocarbons (8-15%); esters (2&26%); alcohols (2542 %); acids (2 %); P-diketone (&lo%); hydroxy !3-diketones (9-16 %); and unidentified material (9-12 %). The esters are mainly octacosanol esters of CI, to C32 fatty acids but lesser amounts of esters of trans 2-tetracosenoic and trans 2-docosenoic acids also occur. The free alcohols are almost entirely octacosanol. The P-diketone is hentriacontane-14,16-dione and the hydroxy-P-diketones are a 1 :1 mixture of 8-and 9-hydroxyhentriacontane-14,lG-diones.
The acetone-soluble lipids of red clover (T. pratense) consist largely of the galactolipids, galactosyl-I-gIycerol and digalactosyl-r -glycerol linolenate. The fatty acids from the galactolipids, expressed in moles, were shown b y gas-liquid chromatography t o consist of 95.8% linolenic, 1.904 linoleic and 2.3% palmitic acid. Oleic, stearic and palmitoleic acids werc not detected. S o indication was obtained of the presence of triglycerides in the acetone-soluble lipids.
The phospholipids from a commercial rapeseed gum have been fractionated on DEAE-cellulose and silicic acid columns. The molar percentages of the major components were phosphatidyl choline (22), phosphatidyl inositol (18) and phosphatidyl ethanolamine (15). Other acidic phospholipids (16) were also observed but were not further investigated. The fatty acids from the phospholipid fractions showed little variation in composition. The chief components were palmitie, oleic and linoleic acids.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
