Summary
The buccal mucosa was studied histologically in 12 patients with erythrodermic psoriasis and seven of these had repeat biopsies examined after treatment of the skin. An increased dermal vascularity was usually observed when the skin was crythrodermic, and in all but one patient this was reduced after treatment. There were conflicting changes in the inflammatory cell infiltrate, rete ridge and dermal papilla thickness, although spongiosis, parakeratosis and rete ridge clubbing were usually reduced after treatment.
