Early guidance emphasizes the provision of information to families about growth and normal development in childhood such as specific information about security at home. This research aimed to analyze mothers' knowledge about the prevention of accidents in childhood before and after an educational intervention. It was conducted as a quasi-experimental study with 155 mothers in a Basic Health Unit in northeastern of Brazil in April and May of 2015. The data were collected in two stages through a self-report questionnaire performed before and after the educational intervention by the subjects. The results revealed a significant increase in knowledge about prevention of accidents in childhood in all the self-applied questions (p<0.05). After the educational intervention, there seemed to be a significant difference with the questions regarding the knowledge on preventing fall (p=0.000), drowning (p=0.000), and intoxication (p=0.007). The authors concluded that the educational intervention performed in this study increased the subjects’ knowledge on prevention of accidents in childhood.

This study aimed to evaluate sociodemographic, behavioral, and individual factors associated with body image perception in a sample of adolescents from schools in low Human Development Index areas in Brazil. This cross-sectional study included 609 boys and 573 girls (aged 11-17 years). Body image perception (nine-silhouettes scale) and sociodemographic, behavioral, and individual variables were included. Multinomial logistic regression analysis was used. Most boys (76.9%) and girls (77.5%) were dissatisfied with their body image. Body mass index status and healthy body image evaluation were significantly associated with body image dissatisfaction in both boys and girls ( p < .001), and daily fruit consumption was associated with body image dissatisfaction only in boys ( p = .035). Education and health care focused on body image can pay special attention to young people from vulnerable areas with unhealthy nutritional status and focus on strategies that enable improving the perception of a healthy body and a healthy diet.

ResumoA Hipertensão Arterial Sistêmica -HAS é uma doença crônica, que constitui importante fator de risco para o desenvolvimento de problemas cardiovasculares e cerca de 7,5 milhões de mortes no mundo são causadas por ela. Objetivos: o estudo tem como objetivo caracterizar o perfil clínico e epidemiológico de pacientes com Hipertensão Arterial Sistêmica atendidos em um Hospital Universitário de Pernambuco-PE. Material e Métodos: estudo transversal descritivo, realizado junto a 66 pacientes, no período de setembro a novembro de 2013. Foram incluídos pacientes com diagnóstico de HAS, maiores de 18 anos e se utilizou um roteiro de entrevista semiestruturada. Foram respeitados os princípios éticos. Resultados: o perfil sociedemográfico dos pacientes evidenciou predominância de mulheres, indivíduos idosos, com baixa escolaridade e renda. Quanto ao perfil clínico e epidemiológico se observou alteração da pressão arterial, na maioria dos pacientes, acompanhados, e predominância da obesidade/sobrepeso. Verificou-se associação estatística entre as variáveis: tabagismo e os valores de Pressão Arterial Diastólica (P = 0,001). Conclusão: os dados subsidiam o reconhecimento do perfil dos usuários, reforçando a importância de acompanhamento no setor primário, primando pela prevenção de agravos e emponderamento do paciente neste contexto.Palavras-chave: Cuidados de Enfermagem. AbstractSystemic Arterial Hypertension (SAH) is a chronic disease that is a major risk factor for developing cardiovascular disease and about 7.5 million deaths worldwide are caused by it. Objectives: The study aims to characterize the clinical and epidemiological profile of patients with Systemic Arterial Hypertension serviced in a University Hospital in Pernambuco-PE. Material and Methods: Descriptive and cross-sectional study, performed with 66 patients in the period from September to November of 2013. The patients with SAH over 18 years old were included and used a semi-structured interview script. Ethical principles were respected. Results: The patients' sociodemographic profile showed a predominance of women, elderly, with low education and income. The clinical and epidemiological profile demonstrated changes in blood pressure in most patients followed, as well as prevalence of obesity/overweight. There was a statistical association between smoking and variable values of diastolic blood pressure (P = 0,001). Conclusion: The research data subsidize the users' profile, reinforcing the importance of monitoring the primary sector, striving for disease prevention and patient empowerment in this context. Using nursing competencies in health promotion practices is an international recommendation as a strategy to increase the efficiency of care. The objective of the study was to analyze the nurses' competencies identified in child health promotion practices. A qualitative study with thirteen nurses aged 23-57 years, from March to May 2013. Semi-structured interviews were conducted in primary care units of a northeastern Brazilian city. Top five skills to promote health were identified: to catalyze change, assessment, planning, implementation and partnerships. The study analyzed that although some skills have been identified, it was noted that the practice of nurses presented insufficient theoretical basis in relation to recommendations of the International Galway Consensus. The research contributes to a critical reflection on the use of health promotion skills in child care to support the practice of evidence-based nursing.

O estudo objetivou conhecer o perfil dos trabalhadores em faixa etária economicamente ativa admitidos de 1997 a 2007 em hospital de hematologia com diagnóstico de leucemia mieloide aguda (LMA); verificar as profissões com maior prevalência entre os trabalhadores atendidos que foram a óbito e identificar os riscos ocupacionais compatíveis com o aparecimento da LMA nas profissões prevalentes. Estudo exploratório de natureza quantitativa. A maior parte dos perfis caracterizou-se por ser procedente do agreste e da região metropolitana do estado, do sexo masculino, pertencente à raça branca e com grau de escolaridade fundamental incompleto. As ocupações de maior destaque foram aquelas relacionadas à agricultura e ao trabalho doméstico, sendo as substâncias químicas utilizadas no processo de trabalho de ambas, de acordo com a literatura, possíveis fatores envolvidos no desencadeamento da patologia.
