Various teaching pedagogies have been used in hospitality programs. In this study, a new innovative teaching method has been implemented for TVET students in Sungai Petani Community College. This study aims to examine the attitudes and satisfaction of hospitality TVET students towards the use of the Front Office Tasks Simulator (FOTS) as an innovative teaching tool. This study is a descriptive study using a quantitative approach and data were collected through questionnaires answered by respondents. Purposive sampling techniques was used to select all hospitality education students in their 3rd semester year of college. In total, 22 students of the Hospitality Operations Program semester 3 participated in this study. The results found that students' attitude toward using FOTS as a whole was at a high level (M = 4.83, SD = .14) and students' satisfaction using FOTS as a whole was also at a high level (M = 4.66, SD = .52). Pearson Correlation Test found that there was a significant relationship between students' attitudes and satisfaction in using FOTS as an innovative teaching tool for Front Office subjects (r = .835, p <.01). In conclusion, the use of innovative teaching tools -Front Office Tasks Simulator (FOTS) can increase students' understanding and satisfaction of learning the procedures of Doorman, Bellmen, and Concierge, reservation, check-in, checkout, payment of guest bills. For further research, researchers could evaluate the effectiveness of the simulation tool for community college graduates who work in a hotel or related hospitality industry after this simulation experience.
In the digital age of the latest revolution, education is not left behind in transforming to digital andragogy and pedagogy. This study aims to identify the students' level of knowledge, attitude, and motivation in the readiness of e-learning at Sungai Petani Community College. The study also identified whether there is a difference between the Certificate in Beauty and Spa programs and the Diploma in Beauty Therapy in influencing students' level of knowledge, attitude, and motivation towards the use of e-learning. Respondents comprised of 92 students of Certificate in Beauty and Spa Therapy and Diploma in Beauty Therapy at Sungai Petani Community College using a questionnaire. The results showed that the student's knowledge, attitude, and motivation were at a high level with a mean (M=3.98) respectively; M= 3.95; M=3.93). The test-t analysis showed that there was no significant difference in the level of knowledge, student attitude, and motivation between the Certificate in Beauty and Spa programs and the Diploma in Beauty Therapy. This study implies that the skills and knowledge of students with the use of digital platforms still need to be applied by these lecturers as the implementation of e-learning is a long-term journey due to the unfinished covid-19 pandemic. In addition, lecturers should use various digital platforms to maintain students' interest and encourage students to use e-learning.
This descriptive study aims to identify the level of readiness of Food and Beverages Service (F&B) students on the implementation of e-learning using Google Classroom and the effectiveness of the implementation of e-learning using Google Classroom in F&B classes. In addition, this study also aims to identify differences in the level of readiness and effectiveness among F&B students of semester 1 & 2. A set of questionnaires was used to collect study data. The respondents of the study were a total of 42 students. The findings show that the level of readiness and effectiveness of the implementation of e-learning using Google Classroom is at a high level of M = 3.90 and M = 3.89. The findings of the t-test found that there is no significant difference in the level of readiness and effectiveness among F&B students in semester 1 & 2. In conclusion, students F&B in Sungai Petani Community College are ready for the implementation of e-learning. With the combination of both e-learning and face to face class, students will be more interested in F&B learning in the classroom plus materials/activities in the Google classroom. This supported by the current findings which shows that the effectiveness of the implementation of e-learning by using Google Classroom in F&B classrooms are at high level. The strategy that will be used to strengthen the implementation of the use of Google Classroom in F&B classes in the future is to use the method of live demonstration with students. Future research is suggest that, researchers can do analysis on the effectiveness of use live demonstration which integrated into the Google Classroom for F&B students.
This study was conducted to identify the implementation of online learning for Hotel Recreation subject among Sungai Petani Community College students. A qualitative study involving 15 students was conducted to determine the students' views on the implementation of online learning for The Recreation Hotel subjects. The open-ended question was conducted together with all participants to collect information on the main content lime which consists of: i) the views of the students; ii) the implementation of learning; iii) constraints and challenges; iv) suggestions for improvements in the implementation of online learning as well as v) students' satisfaction towards the implementation of online learning. Feedback from all participants was translated and analyzed according to the theme. The findings show that more than half of students have opinions related to challenges to the implementation of online learning. Nevertheless, students acknowledge that lecturers have successfully implemented online learning for the subject, even though lecturers face various challenges. The mentioned challenges are unstable Internet problems, insufficient Internet data, inability to carry out practical activities, lack of suitable recreation equipment, many assignments that need to be completed, and difficulty in understanding online learning for the subject. In addition, students have contributed several suggestions to improve all challenges that arise, including providing video reference materials for each activity, conducting outdoor activities that follow the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and providing Internet facilities at the college. In conclusion, most students are satisfied with implementing online learning for Hotel Recreation.
