The sustainable development of human society makes necessary the research on and the use of RAC. For the purpose of enlarging its application range, both lowering cost and enhancing properties of RCA are worth being done. This paper aims at improving RAC’s resistance to permeability and freeze-thaw with a lower addition amount of calcined diatomite compared with silicon fume. Therefore, the main study on effects of calcined diatomite on resistance to permeability and freeze-thaw is carried out through comparison experiments. Research results indicate that the calcined diatomite of 2% added is able to decrease relative penetration coefficient by 59%, the strength loss by 4.9% and the relative strength loss by 3.3%. Obviously, the lower addition of calcined diatomite could achieve good effects, which arrived at the goal of this paper.
Abstract. This research was to enhance strength and durability of concrete in both design and construction with gangue. Particularly, the strength and performance of concrete is achieved by optimizing the gangue, fly ash and silica fume replacement for cement. The gangue has been used as a cementitious material. The many technical benefits available to concrete user, such as reduced heat evolution, lower permeability and higher strength at later ages, in order to increase resistance to sulphate attack and alkali silica reaction. A number of recommendations are given for the effective use of gangue and fly ash in concrete. The results show that 10% gangue, 15% slag, 15% fly ash, 10% silica fume of replacement was found to be an optimum level and demonstrated excellent performance in concrete. The paper is intended to provide guidance for those concerned with the design, application and performance of concrete with gangue in practice where gangue can also help to reduce costs and energy demands in the production of concrete compared with conventional Portland cement concrete.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
