The “dynamic spatial demand” of Fréchet‐type dendrons is compared with that of “conventional” building blocks by evaluation of the deslipping behavior of dendritic rotaxanes (see picture). This method leads to a ranking list of the size of voluminous building blocks, which will be useful for the rating of steric effects and the design and synthesis of new rotaxanes or less‐stable pseudorotaxanes.
The syntheses and crystal structure studies of amide-based catenanes derived from m-phenylene diacrylic acid and 5acetoxy isophthalic acid (17% and 3% yield of 4a and 4b resp.) and octalactam macrocycles (21% yield of 3) are described. Hydrogen bonding patterns play a key role in the formation of the different conformations of octalactam 3. The crystal structures of 3 reveal a number of hydrogen-bonding [a] Kekulé-
ChemInform is a weekly Abstracting Service, delivering concise information at a glance that was extracted from about 100 leading journals.
