This study attempts to investigate the cultural contents of two EFL textbooks entitled English for Elementary School Students Grade 6 and Grow with English Book 6. This research is qualitative descriptive research, particularly content analysis. This study uses the categorization of cultural aspects by Cortazzi and Jin (1999), including source culture, target culture, and International culture. Adaskou’s et al. (1990) categorization of cultural dimensions covering sociological sense, aesthetic sense, semantic sense, and pragmatic sense is also employed. The findings show that the two English textbooks present the cultural aspects and dimensions differently. English for Elementary School Students Grade 6 textbook carries out more source culture than target culture and international culture. In comparison, Grow with English Grade 6 textbook carries out more target culture than source and global cultures. The findings also reveal that the sociological sense is the most prominent sense occurring in the two textbooks compared to the aesthetic, semantic, and pragmatic senses. Therefore, from the results, it can be inferred that the proportion of the cultural content in the two textbooks is imbalanced.
During an online learning environment, students organize and develop their ideas in writing using Google Docs, and they hold their online consultation through the comment section. The research aims to explore students’ perspectives towards Google Docs in writing classes. A survey method using a quantitative approach was employed to collect data for this research. The researcher composed a questionnaire consisting of 17 questions and an interview as the instrument of this research to explore EFL students’ perspectives regarding Google Docs and distributed it to 24 students in a Seminar on ELT D of the English Language Education Program at Universitas Brawijaya. After processing the findings of the questionnaire using SPSS ver. 25.0, the researcher found that the students of the Seminar on ELT D project had a positive perspective towards Google Docs in writing class. As an alternate writing tool in online learning, Google Docs can be useful to students. However, students prefer using face-to-face for consultation or employing synchronous learning, such as video conferencing, to assist students in better grasping how to develop and arrange their thoughts.

It primes to the need of some adjustments in the higher education curriculum. In Academic writing classes in which English is served as a foreign language, implementation of OBE principles imposes issues as assessment must measure all abilities, skills, and knowledge targeted in the learning outcomes. The challenge escalate with large size classes that lead to a less optimum assessment given to learners’ writing. The need of writing assessment model that obeys OBE principles and facilitates academic writing teachers in coping with complication in providing quality assessment to scads of students in Indonesia is of a paramount importance. Yet, studies aimed at meeting the need are barely conducted. This research, therefore, designs writing assessment model which can (1) measure the expected learning outcomes, (2) monitor student’s abilities, skills and knowledge with regard to their individual learning pace, (3) assist the teachers of writing classes to comprehensively provide rigorous assessment to lots of students. ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) model is employed to reach the research objectives. As the whole process is still on going, this article presents the Analysis and Design stages of the study. It elaborates underlying considerations of the proposed assessment model by reviewing previous studies related to writing assessment and OBE assessment in writing. The descriptions of the illustrated assessment model are presented to provide vivid view of how the assessment model works.</p><p><strong>Abstrak:</strong> Implementasi Pendidikan Berbasis Hasil (OBE) di Indonesia telah digalakkan sejak tahun 2019.
Students of English Language Education Program in Faculty of Cultural Studies Universitas Brawijaya ideally master Grammar before taking the degree of Sarjana Pendidikan. However, the fact shows that they are still weak in Grammar especially tenses. Therefore, the researchers initiate to develop a video as a media to teach tenses. Objectively, by using video, students get better understanding on tenses so that they can communicate using English accurately and contextually. To develop the video, the researchers used ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). First, the researchers analyzed the students’ learning need to determine the product that would be developed, in this case was a movie about English tenses. Then, the researchers developed a video as the product. The product then was validated by media expert who validated attractiveness, typography, audio, image, and usefulness and content expert and validated by a content expert who validated the language aspects and tenses of English used by the actors in the video dealing with the grammar content, pronunciation, and fluency performed by the actors. The result of validation shows that the video developed was considered good. Theoretically, it is appropriate to be used English Grammar classes. However, the media expert suggests that it still needs some improvement for the next development especially dealing with the synchronization between lips movement and sound on the scenes while the content expert suggests that the Grammar content of the video should focus on one tense only to provide more detailed concept of the tense.
