O processo de inclusão escolar continua a apresentar desafios para o atendimento a alunos com deficiência intelectual. Na busca de analisar a percepção de uma professora sobre o tema, aplicou-se uma entrevista estruturada sobre o conceito de educação inclusiva, a participação em ações de educação continuada, possíveis impedimentos para essa participação, dificuldades encontradas para a concretização do processo inclusivo e sugestões para viabilizá-lo. A pesquisa, de abordagem qualitativa, foi desenvolvida na única escola pública estadual, em uma cidade do interior da Zona da Mata do Estado de Rondônia. As principais dificuldades indicadas para a realização da inclusão foram: o diagnóstico do aluno, a falta de capacitação profissional e a ausência de trabalho colaborativo. Como sugestões, são apontadas: a necessidade de melhorar a infraestrutura da escola, oferecer cursos de capacitação e disponibilizar profissionais que possam dar suporte para a concretização do processo inclusivo. Conclui-se que há a necessidade de analisar como as propostas para a educação inclusiva chegam e são efetivadas nas escolas de municípios distantes dos grandes centros de produção científica, e como essas escolas têm declarado, avaliado e ofertado os apoios necessários à inclusão escolar de alunos com deficiência intelectual.
