Abstract. This research studied the effect of PVA as organic polymer and citric acid as crosslinker agent in the arrowroot starch/PVA blend films. The properties of films were investigated by water uptake, water vapor permeability, mechanical properties, thermal stability, spectra of FTIR and XRD patterns. PVA used in this research influenced the film properties at the highest concentration. The cross-linkingsinter or intra molecules of arrowroot and PVA were developed as ester bonds which are formed from the reaction of hydroxyl groups consisting of starch and PVA with citric acid. The ester bond was confirmed by FTIR spectra. The increase of the amount of citric acid affected significantly on physical, chemical and mechanical properties, water uptake, WVP and crystallinity. Water barrier level was reduced by decreasing of water uptake and WVP succeeded significantly with increased crosslinking. Cross-linking impact the thermal stability of the films. The elasticity of the films also increases the production of citric acid as a plasticizer in the making of the films as a food packaging material.
Natrium nitrit merupakan salah satu pengawet makanan yang diijinkan yang banyak digunakan pada daging dan ikan. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengidentifikasi dan menetapkan kadar natrium nitrit dengan sampel yang digunakan berupa sosis tidak bermerk. Identifikasi senyawa natrium nitrit dilakukan dengan metoda Griess Ilosvay, sedangkan penetapan kadarnya dilakukan dengan metoda Spektrofotometri UV-Vis. Hasil penelitian bahwa dari 10 sampel yang diuji, semua positif mengandung natrium nitrit antara 13,43 mg/kg (pada sampel F) - 233,1 mg/kg (pada sampel A). Kemudian 7 sampel memiliki kadar natrium nitrit melebihi batas maksimum berdasar PerKBPOM Nomor 36 tahun 2013 tentang bahan tambahan pangan daging olahan yaitu 30 mg/kg.
The main issue of coffee commodity in Indonesia besides productivity is quality consistency. Defective coffee has a low quality level as well as low selling value and potentially detrimental for the coffee industry. However, despite its potential impact on coffee consumption behavior, the study on coffee quality based on Indonesian consumer perspectives is still limitedly published. This study aimed to investigate Indonesian coffee consumer perception on coffee quality and the effect on consumption behavior. The study was conducted using an online survey to coffee communities involving coffee consumers, and more experienced coffee consumers such as farmers, barista, Q-graders and coffee-based entrepreneurs in Indonesia. The data was analyzed for descriptive analysis, Cochran Q test and post hoc analysis using XLSTAT software and further visualized using Displayr online software. The result indicated that even though there were some similarity or agreement, the coffee consumers and more experienced consumers might perceive coffee quality differently. Those perceptions on quality might drive their different behavior on coffee consumption in Indonesia.
Polypropylene (PP) sheets were coated with the ultrathin polymer layers by plasma polymerization of hexamethyldisiloxane and two other Si-containing monomers, and the protection effects from oxidative plasma etching were investigated. Etching was evaluated by the weight loss of PP sheets after the exposure to an oxidative plasma of O 2 or air. The effects of plasma polymer coating on the etching resistance were investigated with respect to the type of plasma polymer, thickness of a coating layer, oxidative plasma etching conditions, etc. Weight of the coated PP sheets was less changed and the substrates remained stable after a certain period of oxidative plasma treatments, during which time the original PP film had prominently lost weight. The importance of the crosslinked network with {Si{ components in plasma polymers on the etching resistance was suggested from the results. Infrared spectra were taken and analyzed with the plasma polymers after O 2 -plasma treatments, and the increase in the Si{O structure was indicated by the increase in the peak intensity at 1023 cm 01 . Stabilization against oxidative etching was attributed to the crosslinked Si{O structure on the surface layer.
