Construction of surfaces with the capability of repelling both water and oil is a challenging issue. We report the superamphiphobic properties of mineral surfaces coated with nanofluids based on synthesized Co-doped and Ce-doped Barium Strontium Titanate (CoBST and CeBST) nanoparticles and fluorochemicals of trichloro(1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorooctyl)silane (PFOS) and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). Coating surfaces with these nanofluids provides both oil (with surface tensions as low as 23 mN/m) and water repellency. Liquids with high surface tension (such as water and ethylene glycol) roll off the coated surface without tilting. A water drop released from 8 mm above the coated surface undergoes first a lateral displacement from its trajectory and shape deformation, striking the surface after 23 ms, bouncing and rolling off freely. These multifunctional coating nanofluids impart properties of self-cleaning. Applications include coating surfaces where cleanliness is paramount such as in hospitals and domestic environments as well as the maintenance of building facades and protection of public monuments from weathering. These superamphiphobic-doped nanofluids have thermal stability up to 180 °C; novel industrial applications include within fracking and the elimination of condensate blockage in gas reservoirs.
Many gas condensate reservoirs suffer a loss in productivity owing to accumulation of liquid in near-wellbore region. Wettability alteration of reservoir rock from liquid-wetting to gas-wetting appears to be a promising technique for elimination of the condensate blockage. In this paper, we report use of a superamphiphobic nanofluid containing TiO2 nanoparticles and low surface energy materials as polytetrafluoroethylene and trichloro(1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorooctyl)silane to change the wettability of the carbonate reservoir rock to ultra gas-wetting. The utilization of nanofluid in the wettability alteration of carbonate rocks to gas-wetting in core scale has not been reported already and is still an ongoing issue. Contact angle measurements was conducted to investigate the wettability of carbonate core plugs in presence of nanofluid. It was found that the novel formulated nanofluid used in this work can remarkably change the wettability of the rock from both strongly water- and oil-wetting to highly gas-wetting condition. The adsorption of nanoparticles on the rock and formation of nano/submicron surface roughness was verified by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Stylus Profilometer (SP) analyses. Using free imbibition test, we showed that the nanofluid can imbibe interestingly into the core sample, resulting in notable ultimate gas-condensate liquid recovery. Moreover, we studied the effect of nanofluid on relative permeability and recovery performance of gas/water and gas/oil systems for a carbonate core. The result of coreflooding tests demonstrates that the relative permeability of both gas and liquid phase increased significantly as well as the liquid phase recovery enhanced greatly after the wettability alteration to gas-wetting.
New water-based nanofluids including unparalleled milk protein α-lactalbumin hollow nano-bio-tubes using low cost, available and advanced partial chemical hydrolysis strategy in bottom-up nano-assembly have been employed in this work. The aqueous sol-gel chemistry in nanotechnology which we selected for this goal offers new fabrication as interesting smart protein nanotubes. The kinds of nanometer sized tubular structures such as waved, helically coiled, bent, bamboo-shaped, bead-like and branched single-walled protein nanotubes (SWPNTs) with a range of 3 -8 nm in outer diameters were produced by this method. Complete characterization for natural produced nanotubes including SEM, TEM images, G bond and D bond in Raman spectroscopy, XRD patterns, DLS (Dynamic Light Scattering) and FTIR analysis were evaluated which they are most significant experiments in synthesized protein nanotubes soluble in clear water nanofluids and stabilization of transparent nanofluids was proved within more than one year after preparation. Various necessary ligand ion salts such as Mn 2+ , Zn 2+ and Ca 2+ or mixtures as bridge makers and producing biological self-assembly hollow SWPNTs were performed and we focused on new chemical technology under specific acidic hydrolysis method not conventional enzymatic proteolysis and applying surfactants, pH reagent, Tris-HCl buffer, polar solvent which could be produced by β-sheet stacked hydrolysed protein α-lactalbumin mechanism under appropriate conditions to achieving high efficiency new protein nanotubes skeleton. They can be promising materials applied in food science, diet nutrition, nanomedicine, nano-biotechnology and surgery.
