Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by a state of hyperglycemia due to insulindeficiency and/or resistance. Uncontrolled hyperglycemia suppresses the immune system, making DM patients moresusceptible to infections, including urinary tract infections (UTI). Leukocyte findings in urine >10 cells/lpb(leukocyturia) is an indicator of inflammation, which is a parameter for UTI. The aim of this research is to determinethe prevalence and description of leukocyturia findings in type 2 DM (T2DM) patients in Sultan Syarif MohamadAlkadrie General Hospital Pontianak. This study used a cross-sectional design with consecutive sampling. Patientcharacteristics were obtained by interview. The sample of this study was random urine specimens (midstream cleancatch methods) taken from 89 patients. The samples were inspected with microscopic methods using centrifuged urine(v=2.000 rpm). Most T2DM patients aged 50-69 years, were female, had DM duration of 6-10 years, and complainingUTI symptoms. Twelve (13%) patients had leukocyturia. Leukocyturia is more likely to occur in patients aged 50-69years, female, had duration of DM between> 10-20 years, and complaining UTI symptoms. Sebanyak 12 orang (13%) pasien mengalamileukosituria.
