Objective: to understand the perceptions of professionals about the Congenital Syndrome associated with the Zika Virus (SCVZ). Methods: Qualitative research carried out at a Reference Center for Neurodevelopment, in the capital of Northeast Brazil. The collection took place from 04/2018 to 01/2019, through semi-structured interviews with 12 professionals, with the data being worked from the thematic content analysis, and Charles Rosemberg's Theory of Epidemics. Results: In the analysis, we extracted 3 categories: 1) Perceiving the SCVZ epidemic through children, which deals with how professionals lived with the unpredictability and stress caused by the unknown; 2) Perceiving the children's parents as other actors affected by the SCVZ, which shows how they also started to focus care on family members; 3) Perceptions of changes for themselves and their work, where they describe how they changed the way they work and live as a family. Conclusion: It is observed in the professionals' perceptions that the acts of Rosemberg's theory of epidemics are revealed at various times, demonstrating that it is possible to anticipate reactions and prepare health professionals to better cope with emerging diseases.
