Liczne badania wskazują, że dopamina (DA) jest ważnym regulatorem funkcji motorycznych, psychologicznych i kognitywnych. Utrzymanie odpowiedniego stężenia DA jest warunkiem prawidłowego działania tych funkcji. W kontroli syntezy DA bierze udział hydroksylaza tyrozynowa (TH).
Drastyczne obniżenie poziomu DA w układzie pozapiramidowym powoduje upośledzenie czynności motorycznych, psychologicznych i kognitywnych. Zwiększona aktywność fizyczna, w szczególności długotrwałe powtarzany wysiłek fizyczny zwiększając poziom testosteronu i BDNF we krwi, może aktywować zależne od nich szlaki sygnałowe zwiększając aktywność hydroksylazy tyrozynowej, a tym samym podnosić poziom dopaminy w układzie pozapiramidowym.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
