EditorialAs editors and scientists, we are called upon regularly to make decisions between alternate and sometimes contradictory scientific ideas. One approach is to maintain harmony, and say that the different ideas cannot be separated and that the answer lies somewhere between. This approach may be the correct path for some situations, and we might expect that everyone should be pleased with the outcome as they can all claim to be partly correct; but are they? scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
