Abstract

EditorialAs editors and scientists, we are called upon regularly to make decisions between alternate and sometimes contradictory scientific ideas. One approach is to maintain harmony, and say that the different ideas cannot be separated and that the answer lies somewhere between. This approach may be the correct path for some situations, and we might expect that everyone should be pleased with the outcome as they can all claim to be partly correct; but are they? Are we at risk of comparing a long term thoughtful research program with a quick throw-away comment that is without data and based on little thought?
