In this paper, we analyse water pollution caused by farming and processing Pangasianodon hypophthalmus in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam. The results show that 1tonne of frozen ¢llets releases 740 kg BOD, 1020 kg COD, 2050 kg TSS, 106 kg nitrogen and 27 kg phosphorus, of which wastewater from ¢sh ponds contributes 60^90% and sludge from ¢sh ponds and wastewater from processing facilities contributes 3^27% of the total emissions. Overall, the combined waste emissions from Pangasius production and processing account for o1% of the total TSS, nitrogen and phosphorus loads in the Mekong Delta. Despite the relatively low contribution to water pollution, further reductions are possible through more e⁄cient use of inputs and low-cost treatment and re-use of e¥uent streams. The use of cleaner production technologies and the development of wastewater treatment plants could be applied to large farms and processing facilities to reduce water pollution in Pangasius processing. Low-cost options for small-scale farms include the optimization of the discharge design for the re-use of wastewater.Source: (1) This study; (2) Caravan (1991); (3) calculated following Jesperson et al. This research is to identify and assess the factors that impact an employee's satisfaction in work. The company selected for this research is a leading garment company of the Vietnamese textile and garment industry. With the survey and analyzing the opinion of 318 workers, the research results indicated six groups of elements (variables) in work which have impacted on the staff's satisfaction: wages and welfare, working conditions, relations with superiors, relations with colleagues, training and promotion opportunities, nature of work. These six-factor groups were measured by 27 observed variables. The analysis and evaluation of factors affect the satisfaction of employees in order to contribute practically to the setting up and implementation of effective measures to enhance job satisfaction for employees, create motivate labor and bring the higher labor productivity.
Although in a critical position in the economy, the paper industry releases a lot of wastewater that requires adequate treatment for sustainable development. This study presents an application of Life cycle assessment (LCA) with ReCiPe tool on the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) of a paper factory in Vietnam to evaluate the environmental effect of the individual techniques in WWTP, especially internal circulation (IC) reactor, a pioneer and practical anaerobic technology. Both Midpoint and Endpoint categories results demonstrated that chemical use and electricity consumption mainly contributed to the environmental impact in the WWTP. The Dissolved air flotation (DAF) and Moving bed biofilm reactor (MBBR) are classified as effective techniques to reduce the impacts on the environment. Moreover, the comparison of LCA between IC and up-flow anaerobic sludge bed (UASB) shows that IC is the better practically green technique on the environment.
Raising public awareness and participation of the local communities in the environmental protection has become a major objective of sound development programs. In the framework of the canal environmental protection program of Ho Chi Minh City, we had developed 32 public awareness meetings for 14 districts with about 2,726 participants from year 2012 to 2015. The program had been organized in various forms such as training, brochure, leaflet, poster, propaganda gifts, face-to-face discussion, study visits, survey questionnaire. The results of the program can add substantial value to the canal environmental protection program of the city. The information gained through public comments can help identify key issues and solutions for the authorities as district and city levels. It was determined that most important outcomes from the public participation were educating the public, incorporating public values, assumptions and preferences into decision making process.
