Çocukların okul yıllarında sosyal becerileri kazanabilmeleri çeşitli faktörlerle ilişkilidir. Bu ilişkileri belirlemek sosyal becerileri çocuklara kazandırmada ve sosyal becerilerin ne derece kazandırıldığını ölçmede yol gösterici olabilir. Bu araştırmanın amacı, ilkokul dördüncü sınıf öğrencilerinin sosyal becerilerini cinsiyet, anne ve baba eğitim durumu, kardeş sayısı, doğum sırası, evde birlikte yaşadığı kişiler tarafından sevilme algısı, sınıf öğretmeni tarafından sevilme algısı, okulda sosyal etkinliklere katılma durumu, evde veya okulda olumlu davranışlarda bulunduğunda ödüllendirilme durumu ve akademik başarı gibi değişkenlere göre incelemektir. Araştırmada ilişkisel tarama modeli kullanılmıştır. Araştırmada kullanılan Sosyal Beceri Ölçeği Kocayörük (2000) tarafından geliştirilmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda cinsiyet, evde birlikte yaşadığı kişiler tarafından sevilme algısı, sınıf öğretmeni tarafından sevilme algısı, okulda sosyal etkinliklere katılma durumu, evde veya okulda olumlu davranışlarda bulunulduğunda ödüllendirilme durumu gibi değişkenler ile sosyal beceri puanları arasında anlamlı farklılık görülmüştür. Öğrencilerin sosyal beceri düzeyleriyle Türkçe, Matematik, Fen Bilimleri, Sosyal Bilgiler, Müzik, Görsel Sanatlar, Oyun ve Fiziki Etkinlikler Dersi akademik başarıları arasında istatistiksel açıdan pozitif yönde anlamlı bir ilişki olduğu görülmüştür.
Topluma Hizmet Uygulamaları dersinin amacı, öğretmen adaylarına toplumsal sorumluluk bilincini kazandırmaktır. Bu bilincin oluşabilmesi için çeşitli uygulamalar yapılarak öğretmen adaylarının, yardımlaşma, paylaşma, işbirliği, etkili iletişim kurma ve problem çözme becerileri gibi beceriler kazandırılmaya çalışılmaktadır. Bu araştırmada öğretmen adaylarının THU dersine bakış açıları belirlenmeye çalışılmıştır. Araştırmada nitel araştırma yöntemi, veri analiz türü olarak da içerik analizi kullanılmıştır. Veriler anket yoluyla elde edilmiştir. Araştırmanın örneklemini 2018-2019 eğitim-öğretim bahar yarı yılında Uşak Üniversitesi Eğitim Fakültesi’nde THU dersini alan 430 öğretmen adayı oluşturmaktadır. Yapılan içerik analizi sonuçlarına göre THU dersinin katkıları ana tema olmak üzere üç kategori belirlenmiştir. Bu kategoriler; bireye katkı, topluma katkı, doğaya katkı olarak gruplandırılmıştır. Öğretmen adaylarından elde edilen veriler doğrultusunda araştırmacılar; “bireye katkı” kategorisine kendini iyi hissetme, kişisel gelişime katkı, mesleki gelişime katkı, duyarlılık, empati, farkındalık kodlarını, “topluma katkı kategorisinde insan ilişkilerine katkı, sorumluluk, sosyalleşme, dayanışma, yardımlaşma ve farkındalık kodlarını, “doğaya katkı” kategorisinde ise hayvanlara fayda, doğaya fayda, duyarlılık, farkındalık kodlarını geliştirmişlerdir. Ayrıca her üç kategoride yer alan farkındalık kodu her kategori için ayrı bir anlam ifade etmektedir. Öğretmen adaylarının büyük çoğunluğunun THU dersini faydalı bulduğu az bir kısmının da THU dersi ile ilgili sorunlar yaşadıkları görülmüştür. Bu sorunlar; dersin işleniş süreci ile ilgili, üniversite kaynaklı, bireyin kendinden kaynaklı, kurum kaynaklı, etkinlik kaynaklı sorunlar olarak gruplandırılmıştır. THU dersi ile ilgili öğretmen adaylarının en sık tekrarladıkları kelimelerin; yardım, yardımlaşma, fark, farkındalık, empati, sorumluluk, duyarlı ve dayanışma olduğu belirlenmiştir. Öğretmen adayları toplumda en çok çocukların, yaşlıların ve engellilerin yardıma ihtiyacı olduklarını belirtmişlerdir. THU dersi kapsamında en çok yapılan etkinliklerin ise kalem, kitap toplama dağıtma; kamu kurumlarına destek olma, ağaç dikme ve kapak toplama olduğu görülmüştür.
