The eating behaviors of 34 overweight and 37 nonoverweight male and female customers of a quick-service diner were observed for differences in speed of eating as a function of weight, sex, and type of meal selected. The results are that the overweight lake fewer bites and chews, spend less time in nonchewing activities, and finish eating sooner. Fine-grain analysis of ingestive behavior in the natural environment is called for.
