Pasteurella multocida is a gram-negative coccobacillus that primarily affects animals. P multocida infections in humans are usually associated with animal contact. To the best of our knowledge, only 7 cases of P multocida epiglottitis have been previously reported in the Englishlanguage literature; none of these cases occurred in a patient with chronic lymphocytic leukemia. We describe what we believe is the fi rst reported case of P multocida epiglottitis in a patient with chronic lymphocytic leukemia, and we review the previous reports of this rare entity.
Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) is a rare disease of the immunosuppression that results from neurotropic invasion of the JC virus which leads to demyelination of oligodendrocytes. Immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (IRIS), on the other hand, is a condition of inflammation that develops as the immune system reconstitutes. This case report describes a case of a 35-year-old HIV-negative male who presented with three weeks of right lower extremity paresthesias as well as right upper extremity apraxia. He was diagnosed with PML complicated by IRIS secondary to Rituximab, which he had completed four months prior to presentation. Despite the condition's poor prognosis, the patient recovered with only minor deficits.
Solid pseudopapillary tumor of the pancreas (SPTP) is a rare disease of young females that does not usually recur after resection. Here we report a case of an elderly female with history of SPTP ten years ago who presented with anorexia and a palpable left lower quadrant abdominal mass. Imaging revealed metastatic disease and US-guided biopsy of the liver confirmed the diagnosis of SPTP. Due to her advanced age and comorbidities, she elected to undergo hospice care. The objective of this case report is to increase awareness of this tumor and its possibility of recurrence, necessitating further guidelines for follow-up.
