The coagulation, anticoagulation, and fibrinolytic system in the human body under physiological conditions are in a dynamic equilibrium state. Under normal circumstances, these systems ensure unobstructed blood flow and post-injury hemostasis. The balance of coagulation system is a necessary condition for maintaining human health (Cheng, 2013). The incidence rate of cardiovascular diseases caused by thrombosis has gradually increased and has become the main cause of death (Dang & Chen, 2015). The data of World Health Organization show that approximately 23.3 million people will die from cardiovascular disease in 2030 (Mendis et al., 2015), which will increase the social and economic burden soon. So far, antiplatelet drugs have been used to prevent platelet-related diseases such as thrombosis and atherosclerosis. Although these drugs including aspirin (ASA) and clopidogrel have fast and exact effects, many of them have been accounted to have side effects more or less (Kim et al., 2016). Compared with Chemical drugs, the curative effect of Chinese medicine is affirmative, continuous, and has few side effects. Therefore, development of antithrombotic agents with few side effects from natural medicinal herbs has gradually become the focus of research. MLP is a new patent compound prescription, mainly containing Notoginseng Radix, Crataegi Fructus, and Ginkgo Folium. In the prescription, Ginkgo Folium was reported to have cardiotonic, antiarrhythmic, and blood pressure-lowering effects (Zhang et al., 2021). Notoginseng Radix is widely used to treat cardiovascular diseases in China and other
Eggplant, the fruit of Solanum melongena L. (Solanaceae), is applied externally to relieve the symptoms of
chilblains in the folk in East Asia. However, the mechanisms and biological
ingredients are not clear. A network pharmacology approach was used
to shed light on the mechanisms of eggplant against chilblains, which
illustrated that anti-inflammation and antioxidation are mainly involved
in the curative effects. Bioassay-guided assays led to the isolation
of 44 ingredients (1–44), including
two new natural compounds (1–2) and
42 known compounds. Thirteen compounds (3–15) were
first reported from the Solanum genus.
The anti-inflammatory and antioxidative effects of all isolates were
evaluated, and the results showed that 11 compounds have anti-inflammatory
activity and 27 have antioxidant activity. Fatty acids, flavonoids,
alkaloids, phenolic acids, saponins, and lignans from eggplant have
certain anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. These results provide
a scientific basis for eggplant to treat chilblains.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
