REVIEWS ment for it -based on analyses which are illustrative and demonstrative, rather than productive of research results. To my mind, the major function of this book is a sensitizing one. Reading it opens up one's eyes and ears to the many ways in which the flexibly organized talk-in-interaction that constitutes organizational meetings, calls, and chatter work to relate what is locally reasonable to accountably rational actions, strategies, and reports that make up the externally visible face of organizational life.
