ResumoCom base em inumeros trabalhos desen-0 estudo foi conduzido na Bacia Modelo, junta ao Km 14 da ZF-2, em parcela representativa da floresta amaz6nica de terra firme e teve por objetivo quantificar a frac;:ao da agua de chuva interceptada pela cobertura florestal. No seu desenvolvimento, utilizou-se de tres pluvi6metros localizados a ceu aberto e de outros trin· ta instalados no interior da parcela, alem de s:stemas coletores de agua escoada pelo tronco, instalados em trinta e sete arvores. Pelos resultados obtidos pode-se verificar que do total da chuva que atingiu o top::> das arvores 22%, em media, foi retido pela cobertura florestal retornando a atmosfera por evaporai;:ao, cerca de 77,7% chegou ao solo na forma de precipita<;:ao inter· na, enquanto que uma pequena parcela, da ordcrn da 0,3% foi escoada pelo tronco das arvores.

Parte da mesma e interceptada pela massa foliar, e por evaporac;:ao direta retorna a atmosfera, voltando a integrar a massa de vapor de agua existonte no ar atmosferico.A agua interceptada representa um::i perda pelo ecossistema o que, dependendo do tipo de cobertura florestal, pode atingir 25% da precipitac;:ao total anual (Linsley et al., 1949).Em florestas homogeneas constituidas por Pinus sylvestris observa-se que a perda por interceptac;:ao e um valor variavel, que depende sobretudo Ja idade e espac;:amento do povoarnento, podendo ser da ordem de 6,6% para aqueles com idade de 6 a nos (Lima, 1976) a cerca de 32% naqueles com '19 anos (Rutter, 1963). Semelhante comportamento pode ser apre.sentado pelo genera Eucalyptus (Karschon & Helth, 1967), (Lima, 1976).volvidos, pode-se observar que as florestas constituidas por especies folhosas apresentam taxas de interceptac;:ao inferiores aos de ecossistemas iormados por coniferas, e que o escoan1ento pelo tronco e um parametro de valor muito variavel dentro de um mesmo sistema (Leon::ird, 1961), (Molchanov, 1963), (Helvey & PC:ltric, 1965), (Aussenac, 1968), (Swank et al., 1972), (Smith; 1973) .Geiger ( 1966), fazendo referencia a um trabalho realizado no Brasil, em 1936, em condic;:6es de floresta sub-tropical, apresentou os valores de 34% para a precipitac;:ao interna e 28 % referente ao escoamento pelo tronco, enquanto que a perda por interceptac;ao foi da ordem de 38 % da precipitac;:ao total.As perdas por interceptac;:ao em florestas tropicais da Malasia, podem variar de 25% a 80%, em func;:ac da precipitac;:ao (SIM, 1972), enquanto que para as condic;6es de floresta amazonica da Venezuela, regiao de S::in Carlos de Rio Negro, verificou-se que do total da precipitac;:ao cerca de 87% chega diretamente a superficie do solo, 5 % sao referentes as perdas por interceptac;:5o e a frac;:ao restante, 8%, e representada pela parcela escoada pelo tronco (Jordan & Heuveldop, 1981) . 0 processo da perda por interceptac;:ao e, portanto, um componente importante do ciclo hidrol6gico de um ecossistema florestal.No presente trab...
