Introduction:The temporomandibular joint dysfunctions (TMJ) include several clinical problems which wrap the masticatory muscle, the joint itself and structures associated to the ear region. Objective:To analyze the relation between temporomandibular dysfunction and otological symptoms. Method:Were part of a retrospective study 20 women with mean age of 22, 38 years. This study was realized by a multidisciplinary team that wrapped otorhinolaryngologist, speech therapist and orthodontist. The participants were submitted to the filling of a questionnaire that addressed questions about otological symptoms and later they were submitted to an otoscopy exam and a clinical examination of the temporomandibular joint. Results:Eighty-five per cent had simultaneously temporomandibular dysfunction with otological symptoms complaints. The otological symptoms more mentioned were auricular plenitude (50%), tinnitus (35%), and dizziness (10%). Conclusion:The results showed high percentage between DTMs and otological symptoms. Other researches with a larger sample are suggested with the aim of confirm the correlation between DTM and otological symptoms.

The presence of auditory middle latency evoked responses allows us to make an evaluation of the peripheral and central auditory system integrity , as well as the nucleus and auditory ways existing until the level of the thalamus-cortical region and primary auditory cortex. Aim: Our objective is to evaluate the presence or not of this numerous peaks, as well as, their latencies and intervals and extend to make a standardizing study. Way of study: Contemporary study of Coorte with transversal cut and the outline was quantitative, descriptive e non experimental. Material and method: Studying several peaks, positives and negatives, caused by the middle latency auditory potentials, in a population of young adults individuals, ranging from 18 to 30 years old, from both genders, with normal hearing. It was used a monoauricular resonant stimulation and a capitation, separately, in both cerebral hemispheres, with surface electrodes. Result: In this research was verified that the analyzed crossings did not present statistically significant results and it was stipulated a pattern from the obtained results. Based on the non-statistical difference found we can affirm that to the Po waves was obtained respectively an average and standard deviation of 12,09 and 1,84; for Na 17,91 and 2,60; for Pa 29, 41 and 5,66; for Nb 41,43 and 8,89; to for 51,44 ms e 12,63 and finally to the interval Na-Pa 11,52 and 4,99. Conclusion: 1-The presence of the defluxions Po, Na, and Pa was verified in all the registers, whereas the defluxions Nb and Pb were absent in only 06 registers. 2-By having these registers, we evaluated that the inveiglement of these defluxions can be used as a reliable method to detect the average latency of the auditory potentials, by electrical generated activities, possibly in sites located in the thalamus-cortical area, evoked by sonorous stimulation. From that point, we establish a pattern of responses for young ones with normal hearing, helping us with future studies in patients with alterations in the hearing system.

Di fferent methods used to evaluate the movements of the face have many degrees of subjectivity and reliability. The authors discuss the ease of using these methods in clinical practice or their accuracy in scientific research. Aim:To obtain the standard for normal facial muscles movements using an objective method -the Vicon system. Materials and Methods:Light reflective markers were placed at points of interest on the face of 12 normal subjects. The movements were captured by cameras that sent the images to a computer. The points' displacements were measured between rest and maximum muscle contraction; and we calculated the means and the standard deviations (SD) were calculated.Results: When smiling, the variation of the oral commissures was between 6.45 and 12.11 mm, mean of 9.28 mm and SD od 2.83; for lifting the eyebrow, it is between 6.0 and 13.08 mm, mean of 10.57 mm and SD of 2.51; for eyelids movement there was a variation of 6.89 and 11.29 mm, with a mean value of 9.09 mm and SD of 2.20; for the movement of wrinkling the forehead, the results showed a variation of 4.16 and 10.85 mm, with a mean value of 7.56 and SD of 3.29. This paper deals with 2 cases of peripheral facial paralysis, due to intratemporal facial neuroma of tympanic (case No. 2) and vertical (case No. 1) segments of the Fallopian canal. The authors present a literature review of the intratemporal facial neuromas with special reference to clinical-surgical and differential diagnostic aspects. It is difficult to detect a Schwannoma of the facial nerve during a peripheral facial paralysis; radiological studies of the mastoid and Fallopian canal are essential for this diagnosis. Treatment of neurinomas of the VIIth nerve is always surgical, the authors emphasize the necessity of an ‘en masse’ tumor-nerve removal and the use of a nerve graft.
