The repeated sprints ability (RSA) is considered an important attribute for basketball, being aerobic fitness pointed out as limiting factor for repetition of sprints. The aim of the study was to verify if the change in VO2PEAK is related to the improvement of RSA after six weeks of training during preseason. Twelve male college basketball players aged 18-24 participated in the study. Players were submitted to body composition evaluation, maximum incremental treadmill test and RSA test (6x30-m) before and after six weeks of training. For the purpose of the study, the calculation of the change percentage delta was used. Paired t-test was used to verify differences after training and Pearson’s correlation and simple linear regression were used to verify the relationship between Δ%VO2PEAK and Δ%RSA. There were improvements in RSAPEAK (t (1.11) = 2.7, p = 0.023); RSAMEAN (t (1.11)= 2.8, p= 0.019); RSATOTAL (t (1.11)= 2.6, p= 0.028); RSADEC (t (1.11)= 2.9, p = 0.015); and sprints 4 (t (1.11)= 2.4, p= 0.037); 5 (t (1.11)= 3.14, p= 0.010); and 6 (t (1.11)= 3.65, p= 0.004) and VO2PEAK (t (1.11)= -5.4, p <0.001); Δ%VO2PEAK was related to Δ%RSAMEAN (r= -0.667; r2= 0.383), Δ%RSATOTAL (r= -0.673; r2= 0.393), Δ%Sprint 3 (r= -0.669; r2= 0.387), Δ%Sprint 4 (r= -0.659 ; r2 = 0.371), Δ%Sprint 5 (r= -0.689; r2 = 0.413), Δ%Sprint 6 (r= -0.678; r2 = 0.400). It is possible to conclude that ~ 39% of the improvement in variables associated with the maintenance of repeated sprints (RSAMEAN, RSATOTAL, Sprints 3,4,5 and 6) of basketball players was accompanied by an increase of ~ 7.5% in VO2PEAK.

INTRODUÇÃO: A prescrição de exercícios físicos de alta intensidade para indivíduos obesos pode induzir a maior sensação de desconforto/desprazer e consequentemente um menor envolvimento com o programa prescrito. OBJETIVO: O objetivo do presente estudo foi investigar os efeitos de um programa de treinamento de força com intensidade autosselecionada, sobre a composição corporal, a hipertrofia, e a qualidade do sono de uma voluntária recém-submetida à cirurgia bariátrica (idade: 28 anos; altura: 158cm; peso: 69 kg; índice de massa corporal - IMC: 27,64). MÉTODOLOGIA: A voluntária foi submetida a um programa de treinamento de força com intensidade autosselecionada, durante oito semanas (2 sessões semanais). Foram avaliados a qualidade de sono (PSQI); a composição corporal por absorciometria de feixe duplo (DEXA) e a espessura muscular e do tecido adiposo pela ultrassonografia; antes e após a intervenção. Durante as sessões de treinamento foi utilizada a escala de valência afetiva. RESULTADOS: O programa de exercícios com intensidade autosselecionada resultou em uma diminuição de 2% do percentual de gordura e não houve modificação na massa livre de gordura. A massa corporal total (kg) diminuiu 7% de 69,9kg para 65kg. No que tange às medidas obtidas com o auxílio de ultrassom, para o bíceps braquial foi encontrada uma diminuição de 22% na espessura de tecido adiposo e redução de 11% na espessura muscular. Para o vasto lateral, houve diminuição de 28% na espessura do tecido adiposo, e de 4% na espessura muscular. CONCLUSÃO: O treinamento com intensidade autosselecionada, promoveu respostas positivas com relação à percepção de prazer/desprazer, e favoreceu uma tendência à perda significativa de massa corporal total, sem maiores prejuízos para a massa magra.

ResumoO objetivo deste estudo centra-se na analise dos indicadores cronológico, morfológico e funcional de escolares da cidade de Mossoró-RN, a partir dos estágios maturacionais. O estudo caracterizou-se como uma pesquisa descritiva, com tipologia comparativa, a amostra limitou-se a N= 305 divididos em n = meninos 153 e n = meninas 152, de nove a 17 anos. Os protocolos utilizados foram IMC, somatória de dobras, salto horizontal e o teste de 30 m. A estatística utilizada foi à descritiva. Os resultados apontam para o desenvolvimento que estará sempre atrelado ao crescimento. A existência do comportamento de modifi cação das variáveis estudadas, dentro de um caminho cronológico, mas com o corte maturacional, constitui-se em uma estratégia interessante de observação, permitindo, levar-se em conta a intervenção natural oriunda do crescimento e desenvolvimento dos indivíduos. Recomenda-se portanto que sejam levados em conta não somente o comportamento cronológico das variáveis intervenientes no crescimento e desenvolvimento humano, mas o comportamento maturacional, como também a utilização de instrumentos de indicação hereditária e genética.Palavras-chave: maturação, qualidades físicas básicas, crescimento e desenvolvimento. AbstractChronological, morphological and functional markers and maturational stages of students from the northeast of Brazil: a comparative study. The aim of this study was to analyse chronological, morphologic and functional markers of students in the city of Mossoró-RN, in Brazil, taking into account the maturational stages. The study was classifi ed as a descriptive comparative research. The sample was composed of 305 children divided in two groups: n = masculine 153 and n = feminine 152, from nine to 17 years. The protocols used were Body Mass Index, Skinfolds addiction, horizontal jump and the 30 m test. We used a descriptive statistical analysis. The results pointed to a development that will always be linked to the growth. The existence of behavior of modifi cation of the studied variables, into a chronological way, but with the maturational cut, consists in an interesting strategy of observation, and it permit to take in account the natural intervention of the growth and development of the individuals. So, it is recommended that not only the chronological behavior of the intervening variables in the growth and human development be taken in account, but the maturacional behavior, as well as, the use of instruments of hereditary and genetic indication.
