RESUMEN:La infección por Candida albicans en la mucosa oral es conocida como Candidiasis oral (CO) y se diagnostica por el reconocimiento de cambios clínicos y la presencia de pseudohifas, hifas o levaduras en muestras obtenidas por citología exfoliativa o biopsia. Los agentes farmacológicos tópicos clásicos para el tratamiento de CO son Nistatina y Miconazol. Sin embargo, a pesar de las distintas terapias contra CO, existen formas de Candida resistentes al tratamiento convencional. El objetivo de este estudio fue determinar la susceptibilidad in vitro de Candida spp. a un extracto etanólico de propóleo de Olmué. Se realizó un estudio experimental descriptivo in vitro en donde se evaluó el efecto que presenta el uso de extracto etanólico de propóleo como antifúngico sobre cepas de Candida spp. obtenidas de la cavidad oral (mucosa palatina) de 31 individuos, con candidiasis oral diagnosticados con estomatitis subprotésica. El propóleo chileno utilizado fue obtenido de la zona geográfica de Olmué, quinta región. Se encontró que el 100 % de las muestras en rangos de concentración de propóleo de 0,1 µg/mL y 1,6 µg/mL presentaron un grado de inhibición en el crecimiento de Candida Oral y por otra parte el extracto etanólico de propóleo que generó inhibición en la mayor cantidad de muestras fue al 0,4 µg/mL (41,94 % de las muestras) y en segundo lugar la concentración al 0,2 µg/mL (35 % de las muestras). Se concluyó que el extracto etanólico de propóleo chileno obtenido de la zona de Olmué presenta la capacidad de inhibir el crecimiento de Candida spp. en agar Sabouraud in vitro de forma dosis dependiente.
En la presente investigación se estudia el uso de desechos cerámicos triturados, obtenidos en una fábrica de Quito, como material sustituto de cemento para la fabricación de morteros. Se compara la resistencia a compresión del mortero elaborado con 100% de cemento y del elaborado con diferentes porcentajes de cerámica triturada (3%, 5%, 7%, 10%, 15%) en sustitución del cemento. Se observa que la resistencia es similar hasta porcentajes del 10% de cerámica triturada. Se concluye que el uso de desechos cerámicos permitiría reducir el costo de los morteros, manteniendo su resistencia. La caracterización de los materiales constituyentes del mortero y su resistencia se efectuó utilizando las normas de la ASTM (American Society Testing Materials) y NTE (Norma Técnica Ecuatoriana).
Un problema común en las paredes de mampostería es la humedad. Los morteros de pega y enlucidos pueden actuar como una barrera impermeable, reduciendo costos en reparaciones futuras. Para determinar la influencia de las fibras sintéticas de polipropileno y naturales de cabuya (Furcraea Andina) (tratadas con parafina) en la permeabilidad de morteros. Se realizó el ensayo de profundidad de penetración de agua bajo presión (UNE-EN 12390-8) y el ensayo de velocidad de absorción capilar de agua (ASTM C 1585-04). Para lo cual se fabricaron morteros de (cemento y arena) y morteros de (cemento, cal y arena) con adiciones de fibras de polipropileno y cabuya de 12 mm, en porcentajes de: 0.15%, 0.3% y 0.5% del volumen de mortero. Se determinó que las fibras de polipropileno y cabuya incrementan la profundidad de penetración de agua bajo presión, más aún si el mortero contiene cal. Por otro lado, la adición de 0.15% fibras de polipropileno, 0.15% y 0.3% fibras de cabuya, disminuyen la absorción capilar en los morteros de (cemento y arena). De igual manera la adición de 0.3% fibras de cabuya disminuye la velocidad de absorción capilar de los morteros en una etapa inicial. Los morteros de cal tienden a absorber agua a una mayor velocidad en la etapa inicial, y en la etapa secundaria su velocidad de absorción disminuye en comparación a los morteros de (cemento y arena). Adicionalmente se realizó el ensayo de resistencia a la compresión simple a los 28 días. Todos los morteros superaron la resistencia de 5.2 MPa establecida por la norma NTE INEN 2518, para morteros tipo N. Los morteros con 0.3% fibras de cabuya, alcanzaron la mejor resistencia, los morteros de (cemento y arena) con 7.905 MPa y los morteros de (cemento, cal y arena) con 7.517 MPa.
El presente trabajo trata de la evaluación experimental del comportamiento térmico de tres módulos, en forma de estructuras cúbicas, realizados cada uno con paredes perimetrales construidas con un tipo de mampuesto diferente (bloque hueco de hormigón y ladrillos cerámicos macizo y hueco) de amplio uso en las edificaciones del Ecuador. Para evaluar cuál de los mampuestos utilizados tiene mayor nivel de aislamiento, las estructuras fueron emplazadas, a la intemperie, durante 7 días del mes de Julio de 2018, en las instalaciones de la Facultad de Ingeniería, Ciencias Físicas y Matemática, de la Universidad Central. Durante el estudio se tomaron mediciones de temperatura, tanto del ambiente exterior como del ambiente interior de los prototipos, que se encontraban convenientemente aislados a nivel de piso y techo. Además, se analizan datos de temperatura superficial de los mampuestos estudiados en las caras internas y externas de las paredes de los prototipos, para lo cual se utilizó una cámara termo gráfica.Los resultados obtenidos ubican al bloque hueco de hormigón como el material que obtuvo mejores resultados en cuanto al aislamiento térmico del ambiente interior del módulo tomando como referencia las temperaturas de confort térmico para el ser humano en estado de actividad y reposo.
