Los últimos cinco años han presentado un cambio importante en los procesos de renovación de las flotas de sistemas de transporte público de ALC, donde los buses eléctricos representan una opción cada vez más viable para sustituir los buses del transporte colectivo convencional. En Colombia, este proceso comenzó con la integración de 26 buses eléctricos a la flota del SITM de Cali, siendo la primera ciudad del país en contar con una flota eléctrica para sus servicios de transporte público. Uno de los casos más emblemáticos la región, es la adjudicación de más de 1.400 unidades nuevas de buses eléctricos para el sistema de transporte público de Bogotá. Esto ha permitido generar una creciente experiencia de parte de autoridades, concesionarios y otros actores del transporte público con la operación y mantenimiento de flota eléctrica y sus sistemas de carga. Al mismo tiempo, estos procesos han permitido constatar las ventajas comparativas de la tecnología respecto a las operaciones de transporte público, pero también a identificar las brechas que se deben suplir para crear las condiciones propicias para una masificación de esta tecnología en el corto y mediano plazo.
En el 2021, el Grupo de Infraestructura de Integración de la División de Transporte coordinó con los especialistas sectoriales el desarrollo de cuatro notas técnicas que consisten en un análisis de la infraestructura física y logística existente en Centroamérica, Países Andinos, Cono Sur y el Caribe para determinar inversiones necesarias que cierren las brechas de infraestructura en cada una de estas regiones. Se estudiaron las principales cadenas de valor y sectores productivos de valor agregado que son catalizadas por infraestructuras de transporte, teniendo en cuenta las perspectivas de comercio extra e intrarregionales. Asimismo, se identificaron proyectos de infraestructura de integración clave para fortalecer dichas cadenas de valor, así como se prefiguraron prioridades estratégicas para el desarrollo de una logística que abone a la recuperación económica de la región.
Entre 2020 y 2021, el Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo (BID) trabajó de la mano de la firma consultora Gehl para apoyar al Instituto de Desarrollo Urbano (IDU) y la Secretaría Distrital de Movilidad de Bogotá en la conceptualización del Corredor Verde de la Carrera Séptima en Bogotá. Este producto de conocimiento resume los principales resultados de estos trabajos, a fin de que el público general de Colombia y otras ciudades de América Latina tengan una referencia sobre metodologías y recomendaciones clave para el éxito de los proyectos de transformación urbana.
