This study examines the level of body satisfaction in adolescents, and its association with age, sex and body mass index. A non-clinical group was made up of 935 adolescents (484 boys and 451 girls), aged between 10 and 18 years. The body image was assessed by the Body Dissatisfaction scale within the Eating Disorder Inventory (Garner, 1998, 2004) and by the indirect indicator Ideal Body Mass Index. The results showed that the Body Mass Index is an important covariable in the study of body dissatisfaction. Body dissatisfaction mean values increased in the female sample. The males' values did not change throughout adolescence.
Aim: To develop and psychometrically test the Nurse Health Education Competence Instrument for assessing nurses' knowledge, skills and personal attributes concerning competent health education practice. Design: A psychometric instrument development and validation study. Methods: A four-step approach was used: Step 1) operational definition based on an up-to-date concept analysis and experts' judgement; step 2) item generation and content validation by expert panel and target population; step 3) item analysis based on acceptability, internal consistency and face validity; and step 4) psychometric evaluation based on construct validity, criterion validity, internal consistency and stability, conducted from January-February 2019 with 458 hospital-care nurses. Results: The operational framework and expert groups showed good content validity, resulting in the first version. From the initial 88-item pool, 58 items were retained after item analysis. Exploratory factor analysis revealed three scales concerning the cognitive (three-factor solution with 23 items), psychomotor (two-factor solution with 26 items) and affective-attitudinal (one-factor solution with nine items) competency domains, which respectively accounted for 58%, 53% and 54% of the variance. Known-group study demonstrated significant differences by years working in the service and training received in health education, providing evidence for the measure's sensitivity. The three scales correlated positively with the criterion variable. Overall Cronbach alphas for the cognitive, psychomotor and affective-attitudinal scales were 0.95, 0.95 and 0.90, respectively. Intraclass correlation coefficients were >0.70. Conclusions: The newly developed Nurse Health Education Competence Instrument is an original and tested self-reporting psychometric tool, being the first to identify nurses' knowledge, skills and attributes necessary for planning and assessing health education practice competency.
The factorial structure of a self-concept scale (Autoconcepto Forma 5) was analyzed as a function of gender and the language used for its completion: Basque and Spanish. The analyses were performed sequentially starting with confirmatory factor analysis, followed by multiple-group, multiple-indicator analysis, and mean and covariance structure analysis. The five-dimensional structure of the scale (academic, social, emotional, family-related, and physical self-concept) was supported by the progressive factorial invariance analysis. It was concluded that there was partial measurement invariance and that differences across groups were derived from the latent mean values.
The aim of this study is to adapt the ESPA29 scale of parental socialization styles in adolescence to the Basque language. The study of its psychometric properties is based on the search for evidence of internal and external validity. The first focuses on the assessment of the dimensionality of the scale by means of exploratory factor analysis. The relationship between the dimensions of parental socialization styles and gender and age guarantee the external validity of the scale. The study of the equivalence of the adapted and original versions is based on the comparisons of the reliability coefficients and on factor congruence. The results allow us to conclude the equivalence of the two scales.El objetivo de este trabajo es adaptar al euskera la escala de estilos de socialización parental ESPA29. El estudio de sus propiedades psicométricas descansa en la búsqueda de evidencias internas y externas de validez. Las primeras se centran en la evaluación de la dimensionalidad de la escala a través de un análisis factorial exploratorio. La relación entre las distintas dimensiones de la socialización y las variables sexo y edad garantizan la validez externa de la escala. El estudio de equivalencia entre las versiones original y adaptada se apoya en la comparación entre los coeficientes de fiabilidad y de la congruencia factorial. Los resultados permiten concluir la equivalencia entre las dos escalas.
