Les auteurs décrivent des Mollusques des aluvions rhénanes et vosgiennes d'Achenheim et les comparent à ceux récoltés par Andreae à Hangenbieten. Dans les grandes lignes, les résultats des récoltes malacologiques opérées à Achenheim dans les différents affleurements des dépôts fluviatiles du Quaternaire ancien, se recouvrent avec ceux obtenus il y a 80 ans par Andreae dans les niveaux correspondants de la coupe de Hangenbieten.
Le pebble-tool typique en grès quartzitique gris d'origine probablement régionale trouvé dans la carrière Hurst à Achenheim, est identique à celui de la plage Sicilienne du Quaternaire ancien du Portugal, aux outils en quartzite des graviers à Homo heidelbergensis et à faune archaïque de Mauer, à celui enfin de la très ancienne terrasse du Laaerberg en Autriche. Il apporte un nouvel élément à la datation comme Quaternaire ancien du complexe sédimentaire de la Terrasse de Hangenbieten. Si pour certains quartzites ébréchés provenant de sédiments caillouteux il est licite d'éprouver des hésitations quant à une intervention et une taille humaines, le caractère absolument commun pour tout le continent africain et l'Europe, du grattoir concave sur bord de galet, parfaitement représenté à Achenheim, permet de lui attribuer une origine artificielle. Ce «pebble-tool » de type kafouen caractéristique, trouvé en place dans une vase des alluvions basales rhénanes, constitue la clé de voûte complétant l'édifice stratigraphique des différentes étapes de l'Age de la Pierre ancienne représentées dans les loess d'Achenheim.
