Polynoids are a diverse group of polychaetes which, although not abundant, are almost always found in faunistic studies. In the Mexican Pacific, 83 species have been recorded; most have not been recently reviewed. The main problem with the recorded species is misidentification due to unclear taxonomic features. As part of a faunistic study and a taxonomic review of polynoids from the Mexican Pacific coast (MP), polynoid types and supplementary materials described for the MP and other Eastern Pacific (EP) sites were examined, principally for specimens from Arctonoinae, Lepidastheniinae, Lepidonotinae, and Polynoinae. Part of the results were systematized and are presented as an annotated list of the 30 species examined and a taxonomic key for the 61 polynoid species recorded in the MP; both include commentaries about the generic and specific status and geographic distribution of all the species. The list and key will facilitate the knowledge and study of polynoid biodiversity in the MP as well in the EP.

The most recent checklist of polychaete worms of the Grand Caribbean region dates from 1996. Since then systematic contributions for the family Sabellidae have been published resulting in changes in the taxonomic status of various genera and species. This catalogue provides new names, synonymies, new records and a list of corrected references. Twenty two genera and 51 species are listed. Fabriciinae is represented by 10 species and six genera and Sabellinae with 41 species and 16 genera. Sixteen species that were originally described from the Grand Caribbean region are currently recognised as not valid, and 11 records as questionable until any revision sustains their distribution. Information for type locality and location of type materials are included.

Resumen La bahía de La Paz (golfo de California) es un sitio prioritario para su conservación, por lo que contar con una obra que documente la biodiversidad que alberga es una necesidad apremiante. El propósito de este trabajo es proporcionar un inventario actualizado de anélidos poliquetos de la bahía de La Paz, validado taxonómica y geográficamente. Se realizó una búsqueda y recopilación de literatura existente hasta el 2019 y se incluyen nuevos registros. En esta bahía se han registrado 287 especies, 156 géneros y 37 familias.

El desarrollo y el mantenimiento de los arrecifes coralinos depende del balance entre la producción (acreción) y la remoción (erosión) del CaCO3 generado principalmente por corales hermatípicos. El material calcáreo puede ser removido del esqueleto de coral por agentes físicos, químicos o biológicos, y este último es el de mayor influencia. Pese a su importancia, pocos estudios han estimado la tasa de bioerosión en comunidades coralinas de la costa mexicana del Pacífico. En este estudio se determinó el volumen y el porcentaje de CaCO3 removido vía erosión biológica en los principales corales masivos, Pavona gigantea, Porites lobata y Porites panamensis, distribuidos en el Parque Nacional Islas Marietas y el Parque Nacional Isla Isabel (México). Además, se evaluó el efecto de factores intrínsecos (morfología, sexo y edad de las colonias) y extrínsecos (localidad y profundidad) en la bioerosión. Se utilizó la técnica de peso boyante para calcular parámetros de remoción interna y densidad de CaCO3. A nivel de especie, P. gigantea presentó valores de volumen de bioerosión de 71.31 ± 32.35 cm3 (27.28 ± 18.05% de bioerosión interna); Po. lobata, 26.60 ± 4.87 cm3 (16.87 ± 16.31%); y Po. panamensis, 29.6 ± 14.61 cm3 (31.127 ± 29.43%). A nivel de género, Pavona presentó los valores más altos en bioerosión y densidad del esqueleto (1.61 g·cm–3). Con relación a la morfología, la bioerosión fue mayor en colonias masivas, pero considerando la edad, fue superior en colonias más longevas (10–26 años). A nivel de localidad, en el Parque Nacional Islas Marietas se presentaron los valores más altos de volumen y porcentaje de bioerosión. La evidencia sugiere que los arrecifes de coral de la costa central mexicana del Pacífico están experimentando una alta tasa de erosión no conspicua causada por bioerosionadores endolíticos y varía en función de factores intrínsecos y extrínsecos. Si este efecto continúa incrementando, podría poner en riesgo el mantenimiento a largo plazo de las comunidades coralinas, lo que modificaría el balance de los flujos de carbonato y la funcionalidad del ecosistema arrecifal.

Among polychaetes, polynoids have the highest number of symbiotic species found living with a wide variety of marine invertebrates, including other polychaetes. Lepidasthenia Malmgren, 1867 and Lepidametria Webster, 1879 were regarded as synonyms but belong to different subfamilies, although both have species associated with thelepodid or terebellid polychaetes. In this contribution Lepidasthenia loboi sp. n. is described from several specimens associated with the thelepodid Thelepus antarcticus Kinberg, 1867, collected on a rocky shore near Puerto Madryn, Argentina. Lepidasthenia loboi sp. n. can be confused with Lepidasthenia esbelta Amaral & Nonato, 1982 because both live with Thelepus, are of similar sizes with similar pigmentation patterns, and have giant neurochaetae. However, in Lepidasthenia loboi sp. n. all eyes are of the same size, cephalic and parapodial cirri are tapered and mucronate, the second pair of elytra is larger than the third, the ventral cirri arise at the base of parapodia such that they do not reach chaetal lobe tips, and neuraciculae are tapered. On the contrary, in Lepidasthenia esbelta the posterior eyes are larger than anterior ones, cephalic and parapodial appendages are swollen subdistally, the second and third pairs of elytra are of the same size, the ventral cirri arise medially such that their tips reach the neurochaetal lobe tips, and the neuraciculae have falcate tips. Some comments about other genera in the Lepidastheniinae, a simplified key to its genera, and a key to Lepidasthenia species with giant neurochaetae are also included.
