Materials and methods: An observational, analytical and cross-sectional study, involving no diabetic and type 2 diabetic individuals with inadequate glycemic control, selected by convenience sampling. In both groups, were administered structured questionnaire and cognitive assessment with Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and the clock drawing test (CDT), besides assessment of functional mobility by the Timed Up & Go (TUG). Results: In TUG, DM2 patients presented a mean time of 11.27 seconds versus 9.52 seconds (p = 0.013). The association between cognitive decline and decrease of mobility was positive in individuals with T2DM (p = 0.037). In the subgroup that showed decrease of mobility and associated cognitive decline, 18% were patients with DM2 and 1.6% were individuals without T2DM (p < 0.01). Conclusions: Patients with T2DM presented worse functional mobility and cognitive performance, supporting the hypothesis that DM2 influence functional mobility and cognitive ability, regardless of neuropathic or vascular complications. These data suggest that hyperglycemia is an aggravating factor in the performance of activities requiring mental functions such as attention, working memory and orientation. -Introduction:Melanotic neuro e c t o d e rmal tumor of infancy (MNTI) is a rare tumor, locally aggressive, usually originated from maxilla and mandible and rarely from the skull. A case of a 4 monthold child presenting a bulging lesion in the midline of the occipitoparietal region with pro g ressive gro w t h is re p o rt e d . Case re p o rt: The neurologic examination had normal developmental milestones. Computerized tomography scan and magnetic resonance Image showed a highly enhancing tumor, dislocating anteriorly and inferiorly the superior sinuses. In order to prevent excessive bleeding, surgical resection was performed in three stages, with complete removal. Conclusion: Based on the absence of tumor recurrence, we believe in a favorable neurological prognosis and in a possible of cure, although the patient was not submitted to any adjuvant treatment.KEY WORDS: neuroectodermic melanotic tumor, cranial tumor, tumor of infancy. D e p a rtment
Objective: to identify the perinatal factors associated with prematurity in neonatal intensive care units from prenatal care. Method: a case-control study carried out in the southern region of the country with 186 puerperal women, from July to November 2018. A hierarchical approach strategy and conditional logistic regression were used in data analysis. Results: among the preterm births, 5.9% (n=11) were classified as extremely premature (<31 weeks), 12.9% (n=24) as moderate prematurity (32 to 34 weeks and 6 days) and 31.2% (n=58) as late premature (35 to 36 weeks and 6 days). The factors associated with the occurrence of prematurity were maternal age (30 years old), schooling (<8 years) and income (4 wages). Among the perinatal factors in the final adjustment model, insufficient number of consultations (OR 2.69/95% CI 1.10 - 6.55) and late onset of prenatal care (OR 4.34/95% CI 1.49 - 12.58) were associated with the occurrence of the outcome. On the other hand, absence of complications, premature membrane rupture and infections in the current pregnancy, as well as adequate clinical management and specific referral were protective factors against the occurrence of births before 37 weeks of pregnancy. Conclusion: it is necessary that health professionals are accessible to the most varied social changes, considering their role as educators and health promoters. Qualified and appropriate Nursing assistance in prenatal care for pregnant women reduces the chance of the newborns being admitted to neonatal intensive care units.
