Mint or Pudina (Meantha spicata L) is very common home herb, used in kitchen and also as a home remedy to treat common abdominal problems. It has an important place in Ayurveda and Unani system of medicine. Its juice, paste, powder, extract, distillate are used individually or as ingredient in many formulations to treat stomachache, dyspepsia, indigestion etc. Since it’s having volatile oil as important constituent, so Arka is most efficient dosage form to use it. There are conflicts in method of preparation among Arka Prakash (AP), Ayurveda Formulary of India (AFI) and National Formulary of Unani Medicine (NFUM). To evaluate the best method among them the present study has been planned. 3 Samples of Pudina Arka were prepared by following these references using simple distillation method. Method of Arka Prakash was found impractical and difficult to extract Arka. Both the remaining references was found suitable for preparation. The method mentioned in NFUM is found most suitable.
Ulcerative colitis is a chronic inflammatory condition in which patients show altered bowel habit such as diarrhoea, constipation, rectal bleeding, tenesmus, passage of mucous and crampy abdominal pain etc. These symptoms may be relapsing and remitting episodes of inflammation limited to the muscles layer of colon. In Ayurveda Pittaja Grahani shows symptoms having resemblance with Ulcerative colitis. Ayurveda described various treatment modalities for the management of Ulcerative colitis such as Matra Basti, Ksheer Basti, Samshaman yogas, proper nutritional supplements, herbal therapy, Yoga and meditation etc. In present study, A diagnosed case of ulcerative colitis, age 14yrs male from khushinagar Gorakhpur, came to OPD of Kayachikitsa, Guru Gorakshnath Institute of medical science, Gorakhpur. He complained bleeding per rectum, Stools with blood during defecation. Associated with fresh bleeding after defecation, since 8 months, weight loss 6-7 kgs in 6 months. He was given Matra Basti and ksheera Basti along with some drugs and his complaints not only relieved delayed remission as well. The goals of the treatment are to improve quality of life, minimize the risk of colon cancer and achieve steroids free remission of the disease ulcerative colitis.
Pharmaceutical study gives emphasis to prepare drugs in a standard manner and to dispense it. Vanga is classified as a Puti Loha. Here the Puti means bad smell, obnoxious or dirty. All three metals mentioned in this group emit obnoxious smell, while they are melting. Vanga has been widely described in our texts and several therapeutic properties have been stated. Much importance has been given to its efficacy as Vrishya and as a therapy for Meha Roga. The Aim of this study is to prepare Vanga bhasma as per classical guidelines. Raw Vanga metal, plant materials and other drugs used for shodhana, marana, Jarana were collected mainly from pharmacy, N.I.A., Jaipur. Buttermilk (Takra) and Gomutra were obtained from nearby shop and cow husbandry. The Vanga bhasma was prepared following Reference of Siddha Bhaishaja Mani Mala in the Department of Rasa Shastra and Bhaishajya Kalpana, N.I.A., Jaipur. In present study total 470 gm of raw Vanga was taken, after Shodhana process 463 gm Vanga was obtained. Further by the process of Jarana 440 gm Vanga was yield. From which 420 gm was used in Marana process, from which ultimately total bhasma of Vanga obtained was 438 gm.

Rasashastra and Bhaishajya kalpana is a branch of Indian Alchemy and Iatrochemistry. In this branch number of herbo-mineral and purely herbal formulations are mentioned with wide range of dosage forms. It is not only a science of drug manufacturing but also the science of selection, identification, prevention and standardization. A good quality of products assures the anticipated results. The pharmaceutical preparations when prepared with proper scientific approach it can prove to be a boon for patients. Amavatari rasa and Rasnadi guggulu are amongst the important preparations, which have been mentioned in well-known rasa text Brihat yog tarangini and Bhaishjya ratnavali. Pharmaceutical study involves preparation of Amavatari Rasa and Rasnadi Gugglu according to classical method. All the raw materials were procured from the Pharmacy of N.I.A, Jaipur and Pharmaceutical procedures were carried out in the department of Rasa Shastra and Bhaishajya Kalpana, NIA Jaipur.
