En los últimos años, debido a una mejor comprensión de la patología de la caries y los avances en los materiales dentales, ha cobrado importancia el uso de técnicas no invasivas y mínimamente invasivas que retrasan o evitan la necesidad de restauraciones tradicionales. Objetivo: Presentar una actualización de conceptos de odontología mínimamente invasiva en el tratamiento de la caries dental. Metodología: La presente investigación tuvo un enfoque basado en la revisión literaria permitiendo comparar estudios de diferentes autores sobre odontología mínimamente invasiva. Conclusión: Actualmente, la odontología mínimamente invasiva se ha transformado en la filosofía más común de tratamiento dental. La posibilidad de su inclusión se debe en gran parte al advenimiento de nuevos materiales dentales que se adhieren a la estructura dental, métodos más conservadores para una estructura dental sana, logrando un tratamiento con un enfoque quirúrgico menos invasivo y supresión mínima de tejido sano.
Las lesiones cervicales no cariosas se caracterizan por la pérdida de estructura dentaria a nivel del límite amelocementário, sin una etiología bacteriana. Los estudios demuestran que existe un amplio rango de prevalencia de estas lesiones que pueden llegar hasta el 85%, siendo significativa también en el Ecuador. El objetivo de este estudio consiste en analizar los trabajos de investigación existentes en Ecuador sobre prevalencia de lesiones cervicales no cariosas (LCNC), establecer sus resultados, analizarlos e identificar las piezas dentales más afectadas. Se realizo la búsqueda en repositorios universitarios y bases de datos como Pub Med y Elsevier para seleccionar un total de 15 publicaciones relevantes en idioma inglés y español desde el año 2010 utilizando palabras clave estratégicas.
