Introducción. El uso del plástico sintético se ha incrementado en los últimos años, para el empaque en alimentos, objetos de deferente naturaleza entre otros, lo que ha generado grandes cantidades de desechos que van a parar en el ecosistema generando grandes impactos al ambiente, es por este motivo que se ha realizado esta investigación con fines de obtener un polímero que tenga las mismas aplicaciones y que se degrade con facilidad. Objetivo. Se realizó la identificación del tiempo de degradación del plástico procedente del plátano malayo en el ambiente. Metodología. Se efectuó la caracterización fisicoquímica y microbiológica, tanto de la materia prima como de su almidón, obtenido mediante procesos físicos de separación, cabe mencionar que tanto para la obtención del almidón (10,26 %R) como del plástico biodegradable se utilizó el diseño factorial 2k con 4 tratamientos y 4 repeticiones cada uno, posteriormente se procedió a la síntesis del plástico biodegradable. Resultados. Se determinó que el tratamiento 3 es el más adecuado con 5,88 g de almidón y 4,94 % de glicerina, manteniendo constante la cantidad de solvente y ácido acético, las láminas de polímero biodegradable obtenidas fueron secadas en un secador de bandejas, mismo que presentó una coloración ligeramente café transparente con un espesor de 0,2 mm en promedio. Conclusión. Se realizaron las pruebas físico-mecánicas determinando que el tratamiento 3 es el más adecuado con 45,69 % de elongación, y el 35,32 % de degradación en 15 días
