Virulence and antibiotic resistance properties related to different Escherichia coli phylogenetic groups have not been studied in detail in Mexico. We aimed to identify patterns of virulence genes and multidrug resistance in phylogenetic groups of uropathogenic strains (UPEC). Strains of E. coli were isolated from outpatients with urinary tract infections (UTIs), who went to unit of the public health sector in the State of Mexico. E. coli virulence markers and phylogenetic groups were identified by PCR. Susceptibility to 12 antimicrobials was determined by Kirby-Bauer. E. coli was identified in 60.4% (n = 194) of the patients with UTIs. Phylogroups B2 51% (n = 99), A 13.4% (n = 26) and B1 10.3% (n = 20) were the most frequent. Resistance to three or up to eleven antibiotics was detected in most phylogroups (n = 188). The genes fimH (n = 146), feoB (n = 179), iutA (n = 178), sitA (n = 121), fyuA (n = 99), and traT (n = 142) were mainly detected in strains of phylogroups B2, A, B1, C, and D. Seventy-two patterns of virulence markers were distributed across eight E. coli phylogenetic groups. A high frequency of virulence markers and the multiple antibiotic resistance phenotypes was observed in the phylogroups. The genes of extended-spectrum β-lactamases (ESBLs) found with higher frequency among UPEC strains were bla TEM , bla SHV y bla CTX-M group 1, CIT (plasmid-mediated AmpC β-lactamase), and bla OXA-like. In conclusion, our findings show the importance of surveillance, permanent monitoring, and particularly controlled prescription of antibiotics by physicians in the social security health system to reduce the spread of highly virulent UPEC strains that are resistant to multiple antimicrobial agents.
Jesús Fernández Gavira Pablo Álvarez Domínguez Moisés Grimaldi Puyana Aurora Llopis Garrido Universidad de Sevilla (España) AbstractCurrent University is challenged to design and configure processes of teaching more meaningful and experiential learning, it must continue investing in the development of methodologies and learning experiences that meet the demands of a new culture of learning competence integrated into the European Higher Education Area (EEES). The nocturnal gymkhana "Gymkhaexpress yourself throught sports" presented in this paper, refers to a nonformal educational event performing for several academic courses, with students from various promotions of Bachelor REDU. Ethnoecology studies the relations of human beings with their environment aiming at understanding several current socio-ecological problems such as ecological degradation and loss of cultural diversity, mainly from a local point of view. Since 2006, the research team of the Ethnoecology Laboratory (Autonomous University of Barcelona) is conducting research projects focused on the study of social, cultural, political, and ecological factors and dynamics influencing the relation of rural and indigenous communities in Africa, Asia, Latin-America, and Europe, with their environment. Contrary to the common practice of simply extracting information from rural communities, projects at the Ethnoecology Laboratory blend academic research and actions oriented to return findings to the populations where we work and to improve their well-being and sustainable use of natural resources.
Palabras clave: Docencia universitaria, Creatividad, Poesía Experimental, Revista Objeto ABSTRACTHaving something attractive always incorporates a fundamental value to teaching, which has a positive influence on student learning. This article shows the importance of participating in the challenge to renew university teaching from the stand point of innovation and creativity within the frame of the European Space of Higher Education. The possibility of using experimental poetry as a didactic resource that helps reinvent the educational practice has been contemplated. An innovative experience has been analyzed, which consists of creating an "object magazine" to learn contents and to develop skills related to a subject taught at Schools of Education.
