A comprehensive assessment of safety related core design information needs was conducted. A basic hypothesis was that core performance under off-design and accident condirions will affect rhe choice of core design parameters. The konomic consequences of fuel failure effects and random accidents were compared with fault tree results based on a "mean-annualtost " concep t. I t is concluded that fuel failure effects dominate the expected cost penalties. Principal development r e c o m m m~n s are for integral tests of: 1) fuel failure propagation and 2) loss-ofcooling consequences. GEAP 13639 3. Mechanical perturbations in excess of design loads. Three basic loading mechanisms considered were excess spacer contact loads, bending loads due to spacer restraint, and shock pulse loads.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
