Vor mehr nls Jahresfrist habe ich die Untersuchung der Condensation des Acetons tinter dem Einflusse einer iiberschiissigen Menge Zinkchlorid tinternommen. Obgleich die Untersuchung noch nicht abgeschlossen ist, sehe ich mich durch eine Arbeit von Hrn. A. L u c a s zur Veroffentlichung dieser kurzen Mittheilung veranlasst. Durch Destillation frisch gereinigtes Aceton wurde in einen Rundknlben mit vie1 trorkenem Zinkchlorid gebracht und das Gemisch bin Riickflusskiihler llngere Zeit auf einem Sandbade gekocht. Daa anfangs farblose Gemisch farbte sich beim Kochen zuerst gelb und schliesslich dunkelbraun. Nach etwa zwanzigstiindigem Kochen schied sich auf der Oberfliiche des Gemisches ein gelbliches, leicht bewegliches Oel ab, dessen Menge sich bald bedeutend verrnehrtr. A h dem Geinische neue Mengen Zinkchlorid zugesetzt und das Kochen fortgesetzt wurde, wurde das Oel nach und nach unbeweglicher. seine Farbe wurde allmiihlich dunkler, und es fing an, olivgriin zu flnoresciren. Durch mehrtligiges Rochen wurde das Oel so dickfliissig, dass man den Kolben einige Minuten umgekehrt halten konnte, ohne dass das Oel daraus ausfloss. Zur Untersuchung wurde ein Oel von mittlerer Consistenz genommen, zu dessen Darstellung das Gemisch 30 Stunden gekocht wurde. Nach Erkalten des Gemisches wurde das nufschwimmende Oel von der zinkhaltigen unteren Schicht direct abgegossen und ohne weiteres der fractionirten Destillation unterworfen. Ein unbedeutender Theil des Oeles ging zwischen 1200 und 1500 iiber, von da an stieg das Thermometer ununterbrochen bis auf 3900, wo die Destillation unterbrochen wurde. Der im Destillirkolben zuriickbleibende Theil des Oeles erstarrt zu einem harzartigen spriiden Riirper. Die bei verschiedenen Temperaturen aufgefangenen Destillate blieben fast proportional den Ternperaturintervallen , in welchen sie aufgefangen waren. Die Trennung der einzelnen Verbindungen aus dem Gemische in ganz reinem Zustande wird voraussichtlich grosse Schwieriglceiten bieten. Dass man ee hier rnit einem Gemisch aus mehreren Verbindungen zu thun hat, ersieht man aus der Thatsache, dass die niedrigst siedenden Destillate fast farblos und leicht beweglich, die obersten dagegen gelb und sehr dickfliissig sind. Behufe vorliiufiger Feststellung der Art der Condensation, d. h. ob die erhaltenen Condensationsproducte sauerstofffrei oder sauerstoffhaltig sind, liabe ich zwei anniihernd reine Destillate mit den Siede-.
Was ZollmaBregeln betrifft, so ist S h a r p der Ansicht, daB die Preihiindler wohl jetzt umlernen und selbst die ein- Besonders beachtenswert ist, was S h a r p uber die U n t e r s t u t z u n g E n g l a n d s durch die S c h w e iz e r F a r b s t o f f a b r i k e n sagt.Es lieBe sich nicht ausdenken, in welche Lage man wahrend der letzten 18 Monate hatte geraten konnen, wenn man die Hilfe der Schweizer Fabrikanten nicht gehabt hatte. Die Schweizer Fabriken hatten sich England zu auBerordentlichem Dank verpflichtet, und nach dem Ihiege miiBte man diesen wohlverdienten Dank durch fortgesetzte Unterstiitzung und Begiinstigung der Schweizer Farbstoffindustrie zum Ausdruck bringen. Man hoffe fest, daB S c h w e i z e r F a b r i k a n t e n r e c h t b a l d n a c h E n g l a n d k o m m e n , u m i h r e w e r t v o l l e H i l f e im Zusammenwirken mit englischen Fabrikanten bei der Errichtung einer groBen und alles umfassenden Industrie der Anilinfarbstoffe z u 1 e i h e n . Wenn S h a r p den Schweizern den herzlichsten Empfang zusichere, so glaubt er nicht nur im Namen der Bradford Dyers Associaton, sondern ganz allgemein fiir siimtliche Farbstoffverbraucher Englands zu sprechen.S h a r p gedenkt zwar mit Anerkennung der englischen Fabriken, die unter den schwierigsten Verhaltnissen den Bedarf an Farbstoffen g e m e i n s a m m i t d e n S c h w e i z e r Fabriken zu einem b e t r a c h t -1 i c h e n Teil hatten decken konnen. Er fiigt aber hinzu, daB nichts in der jetzigen Lage ihm eine groBere Enttauschung bereitet hatte, als das F e h l s c h l a g e n der rastlosen Versuche, z w i s c h e n d e n e i n z e l n e n e n gl i s c h e n F a b r i k a n t e n selbst und zwischen ihnen und den Schweizer Fabrikanten, ein e n g e r e s Z u s a m m e ng e h e n z u s t a n d e z u b r i n g e n .Diese AuBerungen sowie die Hoffnungen, die an eine dauernde Mitarbeiterschaft der Schweiz gekniipft werden, sprechen einerseits fiir die immer noch mangelnde einheitliche Organisation der englischen Farbenindustrie, andererseits beweisen sie das fehlende Selbstvertrauen, trotz Beistand der Regierung, aus eigener Kraft allein helfen zu konnen. Bezeichnend ist aber, daB auch hier, wie so oft in d e n groBen Ksiege, England andere Nationen fur sich arbeiten lassen will.[A. Die Autoxydationsprozesse, wie man nach dem Vorschlag VOR M. TRAUBE die Oxydation mit molekularem Sauerstoff nennt, spielen bekanntlich eine vielseitige und wichtige Rolle im Haushalte der Natur. Abgesehen von ihrer Beteiligung an den mannigfaltigen Urnwandlungen in der anorganischen Natur, stellt jeder Organismus einen Herd von stillen Oxydationsprozessen mit atmospharischem Sauerstoff dar, mit deren richtigem Verlauf sein Dasein innig verbunden ist. Darum interessiert die Aufkliirung des Mechanismus der Autoxydationsprozesse nicht nur die Chemiker, sondern auch die ubrigen Naturlorscher, besonders aber die Biologen, denen sie eine Einsicht in das Labyrinth der Erscheinungen in den Organismen gewlihrt. Infolgedessen ist im Laufe der Xeit eine sehr umfangreiche Literatur iiber die Autoxydationsvorgange entstanden, die neben den zahlreichen Experimentalarbeiten auch eine Anzahl von Theorien urnfaat, deren Anfang der Entdecker des Ozons, SCHONBEIN (1858), mit seiner ,,Ozonantozontheorie" schuf. Es sei vorweg bemerkt, da13 trote der ansehnlichen Anzahl von Hypothesen und Theorien uber den Mechanismus der Autoxydationsprozesse keine von ihnen jetzt eine allgemeine Aufnahme in der Chemie findet. Die Ursacha liegt wohl in der grol3en Kompliziertheit dieser VorgSinge, die durch die Beteiligung von mehreren Faktoren an denselben bedingt wird. Es hat sich niimlich bei den1 naheren Studium dieser Prozesse ergeben, daa sie bei weitem nicht so einfach sind, wie es auf den ersten Blick erscheint. Ibr Verlauf ist vielmehr von der Bildung von Zwischen-und Nebenprodukten begleitet, die entweder als stabile Endprodukte auftreten, oder nur eine vorubergehende Existenz haben und im Laufe des Oxydationsprozesses wieder verbraucht werden. Uber ihre Natur und uber ihre Rolle in den Autoxydationsvorgiingen gehen die Ansichten der Chemiker sehr weit
