Tricyclopentadienyl complexes of Bk, Cf, and Pm were prepared by reaction of the trichlorides of these elements with molten Be( C5HS)2 in an apparatus developed for use with microgram quantities of radioactive substances. For comparison purposes the compounds Sm(CSHj)3 and Tb(C6Hj)s were prepared in the same way, and Pr(CaHa)3, Sm(CsHs)a, and Gd(CjHs)s were made in gram quantities. The identities of the compounds were established by X-ray powder diffraction methods. Unit-cell dimensions and the space-group symmetry of this isomorphous series were determined from single crystals. Visible absorption spectra were measured using microgram quantities of the radioactive specimens.
inclined towards [loo] at 138 + 5 ' . The calculation shows a very small deviation from the plane (010) (about 5 O in the direction [OlO]) and an inclination towards [loo] of 140 3~ 5 '.With ro = 0.98 A, (XYZ)H = 0.75, 0.18, 0.61. Results for a-KNH2 agree with the assumptions of Juza and collaborators 191. It thus appears that a direct relation exists for crystalline hydroxo compounds between the course of the electrostatic equipotential lines near the proton-carrying particles and the positions of the protons, by means of which the latter can be estimated. Moreover the occurrence of bent hydrogen bonds can be traced to the interaction of the protons with their lattice neighbors, and the angle O-H...O can be calculated quite accurately.Received: November 18th, 1965 [Z 110/943 IE] German version: Angew. scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
