A new transition of the easy axis reversal mode from wall motion t o coherent domain rotation was observed t o occur in antiferro-ferromagnetic exchange coupled films in the course of cycling. This change probably causes the previously reported contraction of the hysteresis loop with increasing number of cycles. The mode transition is explained b y rotation of the antiferromagnetic spins, and thus the unidirectional axis, into a direction perpendicular to the switching field, brought about by exchange coupling, stray fields, and local fluctuations both of the anisotropy of the antiferromagnetic and exchange coupling.I n austauschgekoppelten antiferro-ferromagnetischen Schichten wurde bei Ummagnetisierung in leichter Richtung erstmalig ein ubergang von Wandverschiebung in koharente Bereichsrotation bei fortschreitender Zyklenzahl beobachtet.
Easy axis reversals in permalloy films were investigated at 4 to 30°K. In contrast to films evaporated at normal incidence in the presence of a magnetic field, oblique incidence films revealed a simple motion of straight walls down to 4°K. Their velocity v was measured as a function of the applied field H, giving the dependence v ∼ exp [2 M (H − H0) V*/kT] down to 4°K. The parameters H0 and V* are explained by a model assuming a wall of nonzero width to move by thermal activation.
The motion of NBel and Bloch walls in a quasistatic magnetic field was investigated by Lorentz microscopy in the range 4 to 300 "K. Below a critical temperature (28 OK for polycrystalline Permalloy and 40 "K for poly-and monocrystalline iron and cobalt films) the usual Barkhausen jumps of the wall motion with jump size 1 to 5 0 p m were abruptly quenched. The wall then moved by tiny jumps (size w 0.1 or < 0.03 pm) and in a constant field. These effects -associated with the motion of N6e1, Bloch, cross-tie walls and circle Bloch lines along the walls of locked domains -were ascribed to the suppression of the diffusion and orientation after-effect of crystal defects.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
