Okra attains its best fruit quality when the pods are still tender. The previous research reported that the crosses of the local okra, i.e. okra Merah and okra Hijau with introduced variety VE022 and B291 success to obtain plants with extended picking time. This research aimed to evaluate the fruit picking time and fruit characteristics of the F2 population and obtain the F2 genotypes that have a more extended fruit picking time. The research was conducted at the Research Station of the Faculty of Agriculture, Andalas University. The materials used are seeds collected from selfed-pollination of ten crosses [F2 populations] and okra Merah and okra Hijau cultivar as a control. Data collected based on an individual observation, and then the data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and unpaired t-test at a 5% significance level. Results showed that a particular plant from the F2 population has a more extended picking time of up to nine days after anthesis, indicating improved fruit quality characters, i.e. fruit length, fruit diameter, and fruit weight. Plants obtained with a longer fruit picking time of nine and eight days after anthesis are 14.4% and 67.0%, respectively. Selected plants, i.e. FOHVE022-8-13, SOMVE022-10-1, and FOHVE022-8-13 that consistently reveal a high number of fruits per plant, larger fruit size, and heavier fruit weight, need to be self-pollinated and evaluated in further research before releasing as a variety.
ABSTRAKPersimmon, kesemek, buah kaki atau manggih hutan dalam bahasa minang adalah berbagai sebutan untuk buah yang dihasilkan oleh tanaman pohon Diospyros kaki Thunb. Buah kesemek mengandung berbagai nutrisi penting, anti toksik dan bahkan anti kanker. Kesemek merupakan tanaman sub tropika sehingga di Indonesia kesemek hanya beradaptasi pada ketinggian ±1400 mdpl, seperti Alahan Panjang. Petani biasanya menggunakan anakan untuk perbanyakan, namun akibatnya tanaman membutuhkan waktu yang lama untuk berbuah, lebih dari 8 tahun. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk mentransfer teknologi sambung pucuk menggunakan anakan (root-sucker) sebagai batang bawah (root-stock) sebagai upaya untuk mendapatkan perbanyakan kesemek secara cepat dan tanaman cepat berbuah. Mitra kegiatan ini adalah kelompok tani Harapan Baru yang berada di Batu Bagiriek Alahan Panjang Kabupaten Solok, Sumatera Barat dari bulan Oktober hingga Desember 2016. Metode kegiatan meliputi penyuluhan, demonstrasi dan pelatihan grafting. Hasil kegiatan adalah petani meningkat pengetahuannya tentang manfaat buah kesemek, teknik budidaya dan pasca panen serta mampu melakukan grafting atau penyambungan pada kesemek menggunakan root-sucker (anakan) sebagai batang bawah. Berdasarkan hasil uji statistika menggunakan analisis Likert, kegiatan yang dilakukan memiliki nilai indeks 92, menunjukkan bahwa kegiatan yang dilakukan bermanfaat atau berhasil mentransfer pengetahuan dan juga keterampilan kepada petani. The fruit has a variety of nutritional and nutraceutical values as antioxidant and anticancer. Persimmon is a sub-tropical plant thus in Indonesia persimmon is only adapt at an altitude of ±1400 m above sea level as in Alahan Panjang. Farmers usually use root-sucker for propagation; however it takes more than 8 years to produce. The aim of activity was to transfer grafting technology using root-sucker as root-stock in order to obtain persimmon propagation that produces early. The activities have been conducted on kelompok tani Harapan Baru Batu Bagiriek Alahan Panjang Kabupaten Solok, Sumatra Barat province from September to December 2016. Methods of activities include community learning, demonstration of a various grafting techniques and training. Results of the activities are the farmers gain knowledge regarding nutritional and nutraceutical values of fruit, cultivation techniques and post harvest of fruit. The farmers are also capable in grafting to propagate persimmon. Based on statistical test using Likert analysis, the community service activities have index 92, indicating that activities are useful or successful to transfer knowledge and skill to the farmers.
Soil acidity is one of a number of limiting factor of maize production. Planting maize hybrid varieties tolerant to acid soils along with the use of sustainable agronomic practices offers an effective solution for improving maize productivity on acidic soils. Thirty-six single-cross hybrids derived from a 9x9 diallel cross, nine parental inbred lines and two check varieties i.e. a commercial hybrid and a composite variety Sukmaraga were evaluated in 2013 on acid aluminum-toxic soil at Limau Manis Padang in a Randomized Complete Block design in order to evaluate and select maize hybrids for high yield potential in acid soils and tolerant to acid soils. Data were subjected to the analysis of variance using the Proc GLM of the SAS software, while analysis of diallel was conducted using DIALLEL-SAS05 software. Results showed that several hybrids which were progenies of crossess between acid soiltolerant or moderately acid soil-tolerant inbred lines revealed high grain yield on acidic soils. The hybrids also revealed high heterosis magnitudes and high and positive specific combining abilities, low yield reduction and stress sensitivity indices, while they revealed high relative yield and stress tolerance indices. Hence, it is suggested that these promising hybrids can be further evaluated in large scale locational trials on acidic soils.
ABSTRAK: Alpukat Giri Maju merupakan salah satu varietas alpukat unggul lokal dari nagari Persiapan Giri Maju, kecamatan Luhak Nan Duo, Kabupaten Pasaman Barat yang direkomendasikan untuk didaftarkan sebagai varietas unggul nasional. Teknologi sambung pucuk (top grafting) dilakukan pada tanaman alpukat dengan tujuan terutama adalah untuk mendapatkan tanaman anakan yang memiliki karakteristik kualitas tanaman dan buah yang sama dengan induknya. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk mendiseminasikan teknologi sambung pucuk pada masyarakat Giri Maju agar keunggulan karakter kultivar alpukat Giri Maju dapat dipertahankan. Kegiatan pengabdian pada masyarakat dilakukan sebagai salah satu bentuk kegiatan KKN-PPM Universitas Andalas tahun 2018 pada empat mitra kelompok tani. Metode kegiatan yang dilakukan meliputi pembelajaran masyarakat melalui penyuluhan dan diskusi, demonstrasi dan pelatihan menyambung. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa diseminasi teknologi sambung pucuk sangat bermanfaat bagi petani dengan tingkat manfaat sebesar 98% dan sangat dibutuhkan oleh oleh sebagian besar masyarakat (95%). Kegiatan diseminasi teknologi sambung pucuk alpukat mendorong masyarakat untuk semakin membudidayakan alpukat dan mengembangkan alpukat unggul Giri Maju.Kata kunci: Alpukat, Pendaftaran Varietas, Sambung Pucuk, Diseminasi Teknologi Dissemination of Top Grafting Technology on Girimaju Avocado in Kabupaten Pasaman Barat ABSTRACT: Giri Maju’s avocado is one of the local avocado cultivars which is recommended to registered as a superior variety. This cultivar is derived from Nagari Persiapan Giri Maju, kecamatan Luhak Nan Duo, Kabupaten Pasaman Barat. Top grafting technology is applied on avocado with the objective mainly to obtain progenies that have characteristics which are similar with those of their maternal parents. The aim of activity was to disseminate top grafting technology to community in Giri Maju, hence the superiority of that cultivar could be maintained. The dissemination activities were adopted as KKN-PPM activities that have been conducted on four farmer communities in 2018. Methods of activities include community learning, demonstration of grafting techniques and training. Results of the activities are the farmers gain knowledge and skill to graft avocado. Based on statistical test using Likert analysis, the transfer technology have benefits and are useful (98%), and are needed (95%) by the community. ABSTRAK: Kampung Batu Busuk Kelurahan Lambung Bukit Kecamatan Pauh merupakan salah satu sentra produksi buah durian di Sumatera Barat.Walaupun nama durian Batu Busuk sudah terkenal dan banyak dicari oleh pencinta durian pada saat musim durian, namun belum ada upaya untuk mengangkat durian Batu Busuk untuk bisa dikenal lebih luas. Langkah awal untuk mengangkat nama durian Batu Busuk adalah membenahi identitas varietas durian Batu Busuk, karena sampai sekarang karakteristik dari durian Batu Busuk yang sesungguhnya tidak jelas.Tanaman yang sudah dikarakterisasi juga perlu diperbanyak agar kedepan, buah yang dihasilkan oleh kelurahan Batu Busuk adalah buah dengan karakter unggul tertentu. Masyarakat atau petani yang menanam durian juga perlu memiliki keahlian memperbanyak durian unggulnya. Penerapan ipteks yang dilakukan pada kegiatan pengabdian pada masyarakat ini menggunakan beberapa metode antara lain penyuluhan, demonstrasi aplikasi dan demplot pembibitan durian. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa kegiatan penyuluhan yang dilakukan berhasil meningkatkan pengetahuan masyarakat Batu Busuk mengenai arti penting pendaftaran varietas durian. Kegiatan demplot pembibitan durian dan demonstrasi teknik sambung meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan masyarakat mengenai propagasi durian. Although the Batu Busuk durian is already well-known and is sought after by durian lovers during the durian season, there is no attempt to lift the Batu Busuk durian to be known more widely. The first step to lifting the Batu Busuk durian is to fix the varieties identity of the Batu Busuk durian because until now the characteristics of the real Batu Busuk durian are not clear. Plants that have been characterized also need to be propagated so that in the future, the fruit produced by the Batu Busuk village is a fruit with certain superior characters. The community or farmers who plant durian also need to have the expertise to increase their superior durian. The application of science and technology conducted in community service activities uses several methods including counseling, demonstrations of applicationand demonstration plots of durian nurseries. The results of the activity showed the extension activities conducted succeeded in increasing the knowledge of the Batu Busuk community regarding the importance of registering durian varieties.
