Data are presented for the single-particle inclusive reactions r'p-K! +anything, **p -A' +anything, and *--To +anything at 18.5 GeV/c. We have studied the invariant cross section ~d % / d 5 in terms of the variables (PL, p T 2 ) , (x, P T2), ( y , P T2), and (y, , P : ) . The distributions for the longitudinal-momentum variable depend strongly on the type of particle produced. The K! distributions are not symmetric about x=O, where x is the Feynman scaling variable; more K:'S are produced in the forward hemisphere, suggestive of beam fragmentation. The A' distributions peak in the backward hemisphere, suggestive of target fragmentation. The To distributions are significantly different from the AD distributions.Distributions of transverse momentum are fitted with the function A~-B P~. The average transverse momentum of the K!, A', and To increases logarithmically with the mass of the produced particle. Topological cross sections and multiplicity distributions are presented. We have studied the A' polarization as a function of It -tmin!, x , and charge multiplicity. We find that the r-p data show a significant polarization for 0.5 5 It -tminl 5 1.5 (G~v/c)' and for -0.8 5 x 5 -0.4, while in the r+p data the polarization is everywhere consistent with zero.
As announced in June 1985, AT&T Communications will introduce its initial Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) in 1987. AT&T Communications ISDN will expand the level of interaction between AT&T's intelligent, digital network and customer premises equipment and, thus, provide major new capabilities for meeting customers' telecommunications needs. This article discusses the building blocks that underlie AT&T Communications ISDN and the customer needs that these capabilities address.
