Magnetostrictive spark chambers were used with a large-aperture magnet spectrometer to study the reaction .rr-p-+.rr-.rr+n at 5.0 GeV/c at Argonne National Laboratory. Differential cross sections for this reaction were measured in the region of low nucleon momentum transfer. Extrapolation techniques were used to obtain cross sections and phase shifts for the reaction x-.rr++n-.rr+ in the region of dipion mass less than 0.7 GeV. Effects of the interference between the strong .rr-?r+ amplitude and the Coulomb amplitude off the mass shell were investigated and were found to be small.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
