Single-incision needleless mini-slings exhibited similar cure rates as the trans-obturator mid-urethral slings from both the patient and clinician points of view in 24 months of follow-up. Mini-slings resulted in significantly less postoperative pain than trans-obturator mid-urethral slings.

Objective:Endometriosis is seen in women during their reproductive period, where stromal tissue and functional endometrial glands of the uterus are observed outside the uterine cavity. In this study, we aimed to identify the clinical characteristics of our patients who underwent surgery with scar endometriosis and to discuss the surgical results in light of the literature.Materials and Methods:A total of 24 patients who underwent surgery and diagnosed as having endometriosis as the result of a pathologic examination were retrospectively evaluated.Results:The mean age of the patients was 31 years. Thirteen presented to general surgery and 11 presented to gynecology outpatient clinics. The pain was cyclical in 19 patients. There was history of cesarean section in 9 patients, twice in 12, and 3 times in three patients. The mean diameter was 39.1 mm on ultrasound, and 37.5 mm on magnetic resonance imaging. Endometriosis was on the left side of the incisions in 13, whereas it was on the right in 11. The mean weight of the lesions was 61.6 grams.Conclusion:The occurrence of endometriosis is supported by the iatrogenic implantation theory. In the event of a mass in the abdominal wall, previous obstetric and gynecologic operations and a history of a painful mass during menstruation periods must be questioned. In the treatment of scar endometriosis, excision is required by obtaining secure margins. If diagnosis can be established preoperatively, unnecessary surgeries can prevented.

The severity of preeclampsia cannot be determined by the level of proteinuria. However, when massive proteinuria is detected, the clinician should be more cautious about maternal and fetal complications.

Objective:Postpartum urinary retention means the absence of spontaneous micturition more than 6 hours after birth or when residual volume after urination is less than 150 cc. If neglected, postpartum urinary retention may result in bladder denervation and detrusor muscle weakness requiring intermittent catheterization or permanent micturition dysfunction. Our goal was to identify the possible risk factors for postpartum urinary retention.Materials and Methods:Five hundred sixty female subjects were included in this retrospective study. All data obtained including variables such as age, parity, body mass index, duration of labor, prepartum bladder catheterization were compared between female subjects with and without postpartum urinary retention.Results:Among the 560 patients recruited to our study, 124 (22.1%) had postpartum urinary retention. Third stage duration, time from birth to the first void, and number of peripartum micturitions were found to be potential risk factors for postpartum urinary retention. Different than other studies, our study revealed a correlation between peripartum catheterization and postpartum urinary retention. There were no statistically significant differences between patients with and without postpartum urinary retention in terms of other variables.Conclusion:In this study, a correlation between peripartum catheterization and postpartum urinary retention was found. There are studies that reported the possible risk factors related to the occurrence of postpartum urinary retention. More studies should be conducted to investigate long-term results with larger populations.

OBJECTIVE:It is controversial whether medical or surgical treatment options have more successful results in ectopic pregnancy treatment. Although high pretreatment serum hCG levels have been known to be the most important predictor, the appropriate treatment modality for a specific range of hCG level remains unclear. Furthermore, the variables that make a patient a bad candidate for single-dose methotrexate treatment is unclear. The aim of this study was to identify predictive factors associated with the success of single-dose methotrexate treatment in women with ectopic pregnancy.METHODS:In this retrospective study, 101 women with tubal ectopic pregnancies who had been treated with single-dose methotrexate were selected. The gestational ages, pretreatment hCG values, ectopic mass size, and fluid presence in the abdomen were compared between the groups.RESULTS:The mean age of the patients was 30.6±5.8 (range, 19–42) years, and the gestational age at first injection was 7.0±2.13 (range, 2.3–13.6) weeks. The overall treatment success rate was 77.2% (n=79). The mean duration of hospital stay was 4.21±1.89 days in the successfully treated group and 6.92±2.13 days in the failure group (p<0.05). The rate of treatment failure in patients with abdominal fluid was 37.8%, and it was 12.7% in the non-fluid group (p=0.03). hCG values on days 1, 4, and 7 were significantly higher in the unsuccessful group (3887–2589 mIU/mL, 2814–1287 mIU/mL, and 1119–285 mIU/mL, respectively; p<0.05). The cutoff hCG value, which determined the failure of methotrexate treatment, was found to be 1362 mIU/mL.CONCLUSION:In present study, patients with hCG value <1362 mIU/mL were found to be good candidates for methotrexate treatment. Although not strictly decisional, this hCG threshold level can be used to decide on the likelihood of methotrexate success or failure. Detection of abdominal fluid on ultrasonography also can be assessed as a bad prognostic factor, but size of ectopic mass does not correlate with methotrexate treatment success.

Background Influencing factors involved in the decision to undergo labiaplasty are evolving and show diversity among different settings and countries. Updated underlying motivators may assist in clinical decision-making and assessing outcomes from the patients’ perspective. Objectives Herein, the main motivators of women undergoing labiaplasty and sociodemographic features are discussed. Methods Seventy-one patients who were scheduled for labiaplasty were assessed via an open-ended, well-detailed questionnaire to determine the main motivational factors from the patients’ perspective. Validated questionnaires to measure genital self-image, self-esteem, body appreciation, attitude toward having cosmetic surgery, sexual dysfunction, and body-dysmorphic disorder were performed. Results Half of the patients reported that they had an idea about the appearance of other women’s genitalia (50.7%) and were influenced through the media (47.9%). The majority of those (71.8%) stated that they did not have normal genitalia and considered labiaplasty more than 6 months ago (88.7%). The pornography consumption rate in the last month was 19.7% and was significantly related with lower genital self-image and self-esteem. The main motivation was improvement in appearance (43.7%) and a better sexual life (26.8%). Patients reported aesthetic (52.1%), sexual (46.5%), and psychological (39.4%) reasons leading to their decision. Patient-reported 8-items of 11-item motivators for having labiaplasty were statistically consistent with validated questionnaires. The self-esteem and body appreciation of the patients were comparable to the literature. Genital self-image and sexual function were found to be impaired. Conclusions The women’s main motivator for labiaplasty was improvement in genital appearance integrated with their aesthetic and sexual demands. Eleven-item motivators derived from the statements of women seeking labiaplasty were determined in this study. Sociodemographic features and main motivators can conveniently be used as normative data for this population. Level of Evidence: 4

The FGSIS was successfully validated for use in the Turkish population. The scale exhibited strong psychometric properties to assess perceived female genital image. It might be reliably used in genital cosmetic surgeries and in a variety of gynecologic conditions.

The effects of the McDonald and modified Shirodkar cerclage procedures on prolonging pregnancy and improving the live birth rate were similar. Therefore, either technique can be applied to prevent neonatal loss due to advanced prematurity.
