One-way tests in independent groups designs are the most commonly utilized statistical methods with applications on the experiments in medical sciences, pharmaceutical research, agriculture, biology, engineering, social sciences and so on. In this paper, we present the onewaytests package to investigate treatment effects on the dependent variable. The package offers the one-way tests in independent groups designs, which include ANOVA, Welch's heteroscedastic F test, Welch's heteroscedastic F test with trimmed means and Winsorized variances, Brown-Forsythe test, Alexander-Govern test, James second order test and Kruskal-Wallis test. The package also provides pairwise comparisons, graphical approaches, and assesses variance homogeneity and normality of data in each group via tests and plots. A simulation study is also conducted to give recommendations for applied researchers on the selection of appropriate one-way tests under assumption violations. Box-Cox power transformation is a commonly used methodology to transform the distribution of a non-normal data into a normal one. Estimation of the transformation parameter is crucial in this methodology. In this study, the estimation process is hold via a searching algorithm and is integrated into wellknown seven goodness of fit tests for normal distribution. An artificial covariate method is also included for comparative purposes. Simulation studies are implemented to compare the effectiveness of the proposed methods. The methods are also illustrated on two different real life data applications. Moreover, an R package AID is proposed for implementation.

Group Method of Data Handling (GMDH)-type neural network algorithms are the heuristic self organization method for the modelling of complex systems. GMDH algorithms are utilized for a variety of purposes, examples include identification of physical laws, the extrapolation of physical fields, pattern recognition, clustering, the approximation of multidimensional processes, forecasting without models, etc. In this study, the R package GMDH is presented to make short term forecasting through GMDH-type neural network algorithms. The GMDH package has options to use different transfer functions (sigmoid, radial basis, polynomial, and tangent functions) simultaneously or separately. Data on cancer death rate of Pennsylvania from 1930 to 2000 are used to illustrate the features of the GMDH package. The results based on ARIMA models and exponential smoothing methods are included for comparison.

Improvement of the harmony between facial subunits is the ultimate goal of orthognathic surgery and surgeons must accurately make soft tissue projections for planned bony movements. Yet, few studies have examined the effects’ of orthognathic surgery on aesthetic parameters of nasolabial area on a thorough basis. This retrospective study included 61 patients that underwent orthognathic surgery. Demographic data, evaluation period, and surgical details were analyzed. Superficial topographical analysis of intercanthal distance, alar width, nasal height, nasal length, nasal tip protrusion, upper lip height, nasal bone angle, supratip break angle, nasal dorsum angle, nasal tip angle, columellar-lobular angle, columellar-labial angle, upper lip angle, and tip-to-midline angle was recorded before and after surgery. Postoperative changes in these parameters and their correlation to maxillary movements were analyzed. Alar width, upper lip height, columellar-labial angle, supratip break angle, nasal dorsum angle, and upper lip angle increased postsurgery, whereas tip-to-midline angle decreased. Upper lip height and columellar-labial angle were significantly correlated with clockwise/counter-clockwise rotation and anterior re-positioning. Columellar-labial angle increased 2° for each 1 mm of anterior movement and decreased 4° for each 1 mm of counter-clockwise rotation. Novel parameters, such as columellar-lobular angle and tip-to-midline angle, were not associated with any maxillary movement postsurgery. Orthognathic surgery primarily affected the lower third of the nose and changed alar width, upper lip height, supratip break angle, nasal dorsum angle, columellar-labial angle, upper lip angle, and tip-to-midline angle in this region; however, only columellar-labial angle and upper lip height were found to be correlated solely with maxillary movements.

Group method of data handling (GMDH)-type neural network algorithms are the self-organizing algorithms for modeling complex systems. GMDH algorithms are used for different objectives; examples include regression, classification, clustering, forecasting, and so on. In this paper, we present GMDH2 package to perform binary classification via GMDH-type neural network algorithms. The package offers two main algorithms: GMDH algorithm and diverse classifiers ensemble based on GMDH (dce-GMDH) algorithm. GMDH algorithm performs binary classification and returns important variables. dce-GMDH algorithm performs binary classification by assembling classifiers based on GMDH algorithm. The package also provides a wellformatted table of descriptives in different format (R, LaTeX, HTML). Moreover, it produces confusion matrix and related statistics, and scatter plot (2D and 3D) with classification labels of binary classes to assess the prediction performance. Moreover, a user-friendly web-interface of the package is provided especially for non-R users. This web-interface is available at http://www.softmed.hacettepe.edu.tr/GMDH2.
