El análisis comparativo entre los cuentos “Macario” del mexicano Juan Rulfo y “El juego” del panameño Pedro Rivera arrojó resultados que permitieron advertir temáticas comunes, como el abuso de mujeres adultas hacia varones jóvenes debido a la ausencia de la figura materna y del deseo sexual de ellas. El engaño se hizo presente por medio del juego y de la protección en apariencia inocentes, donde la suplantación de los roles de la adulta bienhechora se corrompió por sus deseos carnales; los dos discursos literarios dejan a la interpretación del lector el acontecer de los hechos. El acercamiento a los textos tuvo el objetivo central de comparar dos realidades geográficas distintas, pero culturalmente semejantes. El interés de la lectura analítica comparada de ambas creaciones surgió dentro de la cátedra de la asignatura de Literatura Mexicana del siglo XX, de la Universidad de Guadalajara, la cual admitió apreciar no sólo tópicos compartidos, sino recursos literarios y sobre todo elementos culturales presentes en los dos textos donde el abuso y la corrupción de los infantes se debió a aspectos de malicias ocultas en actos de abrigo a los débiles.
