Structure D 2000Synthesis and Characterization of Na 5 [VO 4 ][O] and Na 4 [VO 4 ][OH]. -Single crystals of the title compounds are prepared by reactions of V2O5 with Na2O and additional NaOH in the case of Na4[VO4][OH] (600-700°C, argon, sealed Ag containers). Na5[VO4][O] crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pbcm with Z = 4 and Na4[VO4][OH] in the orthorhombic space group Pnma (Z = 4). The structures contain isolated, slightly distorted [VO 4 ] 3tetrahedra and non-coordinating oxide and hydroxide anions, respectively.
