Analysis of grip strength and somatotype features of armwrestling athletes of different skill levels
Background and Study Aim. The importance of psychophysiological features in optimizing the functional state of athletes is beyond doubt. The aim of this study was a comparative analysis of the psychophysiological features of taekwondo athletes of different age groups. Material and Methods. The study involved 42 taekwondo athletes, skill level 2 Gup – 1 Dan. The participants were divided into groups of 14 people. Group 1 – (7.50±0.14) years, Group 2 – (10.07±0.22) years, Group 3 – (13.36±0.27) years. A special computer program for devices with the iOS operating system was used. The Apple iPad, 4th generation with a screen diagonal of 9.7 inches was used. The following tests were used: reaction choice (RC), reaction to a moving object (RMO) and size test (ST). The results of the groups were compared using the nonparametric Rosenbaum test (Q), and the Pearson correlation coefficient (r) was determined. Results. RMO test results in group 2 were significantly better than those in group 1 (Q=12, p<0.01). A similar correlation was determined for RC (Q=14, p<0.01) and ST (Q=15, p<0.01). When analyzing the frequency of incorrect reactions in RMO, it was found that athletes in the 1st group lagged behind more often (Q=6, p<0.05). A comparison of groups 2 and 3 confirmed that senior athletes had better results in RC (Q=11, p<0.01). For all tests used, the best results of group 3 compared with group 1 was determined: for RMO Q=16, (p<0.01), for RC Q=22, (p<0.01), for ST Q=20, (p<0.01). Senior athletes often had an anticipatory reaction in RMO, (Q=7, p<0.05). Significant correlations (p<0.05) were determined in group 1 between age and frequencies of anticipatory (r=-0.57) and lagging reactions (r=0.57), RMO and RC (r=0.63), RC and frequencies of anticipatory reactions (r=0.57) and lagging reactions (r=-0.57). In group 3, significant correlations were determined between age and RC (r=-0.59), RMO and RC (r=0.76), age and ST (r=-0.53), RMO and ST (r=0.65), RC and ST (r =0.79). Conclusions. A change in the speed of reaction to various stimuli of taekwondo athletes of different ages has been confirmed. An increase in age and training experience improves the reaction rate. This dependence is most pronounced when comparing junior and senior athletes. The determined correlations between all tests used also reflect the improvement in the psychophysiological state of the athletes with increasing age. The tests used are characterized by accessibility, specificity, informativeness and financial feasibility. The results obtained allow for recommending their use in monitoring the state of martial arts athletes.
To analyze the influence of health-related fitness on the condition of second mature aged women. Participants: 65 women divided into two groups. Group 1–40 women, (43.33 ± 0.93) years old and group 2–25 women (44.40 ± 0.93) years old. The participants trained for 8 months, three times a week for 1 h. Group 1 trained dance aerobics (Monday), strength fitness (Wednesday) and stretching (Friday). Group 2 trained only stretching. The body length and mass, handgrip strength test, vital capacity, blood pressure, heart rate, Stange and Genchi tests, and motion amplitude in joints were evaluated before and after the program. The significance of the differences between the groups was evaluated by Student’s criterion (t) and Rosenbaum (Q). The different intensity of the health-related effect was confirmed at the end of the program. Physiometric indicators significantly increased in group 1. The complex physical activity led to a decrease in heart rate. The results of the Stange and Genchi tests significantly increased. Goniometric indicators of group 2 increased. The comparative analysis of the participants indicators confirms the generalized and higher health-related effect of the complex fitness program. The effect of such a program showed an increase of the adaptive potential, a significant increase in the functional capabilities of women, and the optimization of the studied indicators. With the same time expenditure for health-related fitness, the complex program has a more multifaceted effect in comparison with stretching.
Background and Study Aim. The study of functional asymmetry in students and schoolchildren practicing martial arts using a computer test. Material and Methods. The study involved students and schoolchildren (n = 38) practicing the martial arts (taekwondo, karate). Participants were divided into groups according to the sports’ skill level. The first group included experienced athletes (n = 15, age – 19.00 ± 0.45 years). The second group included beginners (n = 23, age - 9.78 ± 0.65 years). The functional asymmetry was determined using «Reaction SM Dual» software for tablets with iOS. Two visual tests were used. The duration of each test was 100 s. Each test was divided into 5 stages. Each stage lasts 20 s. The first test (simple reaction) – the participant pushes against the circles on the screen with two hands. The second test (differentiated reaction) – the participant pushes against the circles of the same color (out of five possible) on the screen. The following indicators were determined: the number of pushes with the right and left hand (abs); reaction time with the right and left hand (s); duration of pushes with the right and left hand (ms). It was estimated the following indicators: total number of pushes; average reaction time; average duration of pushes. Results are estimated using parametric and nonparametric statistical indicators. Results. The number of pushes in the test, the reaction rate, and the duration of pushes were significantly higher in experienced athletes. It was determined the asymmetry due to the lower duration of pushes with the right hand compared to the left hand in beginners. The asymmetry was not confirmed in experienced athletes. The reaction rate for the left hand significantly increased compared to stage 1 in beginners: at stage 2 (t = -2.41), at stage 3 (t = -2.23), at stage 4 (t = -2.30) and at stage 5 (t = -2.68). This dependency was less expressed for the right hand. It was confirmed the increase of the reaction rate in comparison with stage 1: at stage 3 (t = -2.39), at stage 4 (t = -2.00) and at stage 5 (t = -2.32). The differences in the dynamics of the test were more expressed in experienced athletes. It was determined the decrease in the number of pushes compared to stage 1: stage 2 (t = 2.53), stage 4 (t = 2.89) and stage 5 (t = 2.61). For the right hand, this pattern was more expressed. The decrease in the number of pushes was determined compared with stage 1: stage 2 (t = 2.17), stage 3 (t = 2.07), stage 4 (t = 2.39) and stage 5 (t = 2.94). Experienced athletes have confirmed significant changes in the reaction rate with their left hand compared to stage 1: stage 4 (t = -2.33) and stage 5 (t = -2.06). For the right hand, this pattern was confirmed only for the final stage of the test (t = -2.35). Conclusions. It was confirmed the legitimacy of using a special computer test to study functional asymmetry in students and schoolchildren practicing martial arts. The test division into several stages can significantly increase the information content of the results. The applied battery of indicators provides the necessary information for the analysis of asymmetry. It was determined the best functional condition of experienced athletes compared to beginners. Experienced athletes demonstrate the best ability to mobilize and concentrate on extreme conditions. The dynamics of the test also confirms the asymmetry in athletes with less training experience. Performing a test with a differentiated stimulus confirmed the revealed patterns. The lack of asymmetry in experienced athletes confirms optimal training tactics. The asymmetry in beginners stipulates the correction of training. Used computer test can be recommended for martial arts athletes’ condition monitoring.
Background and Study Aim. The aim of the article is a comparative analysis of the morphofunctional characteristics of athletes of various types of martial arts as factors of success. Material and Methods. The study participated students involved in martial arts (n = 29; age - 17.53 ± 0.15 years). The first group (group 1 - wrestlers) included judo, sambo, wrestling athletes (n = 12, age - 18.58 ± 0.38 years). The second group (group 2 - athletes of percussion martial arts) included athletes of karate, taekwondo (GTF), taekwondo (WTF), (n = 17; age - 18.12 ± 0.26 years). Determined 46 morphofunctional indicators: length and body weight; chest circumference in a pause, on inhalation and exhalation; length and circumference of the segments of the upper and lower extremities; wrist dynamometry. A goniometric study of the range of motion in the joints of the upper extremities was carried out. The dynamic grip strength was determined by the maximum frequency of hand squeezing in 10 seconds. To characterize the data, the median was determined - the first (25%) and third (75%) quartiles. Differences between groups were assessed using nonparametric criteria of Wilkinson-Mann-Whitney (U) and Rosenbaum (Q). Results. Athletes in group 1 had a greater interquartile range compared to athletes in group 1 in the following indicators: body weight; chest circumference in a pause, on inhalation and exhalation; hand dynamometry of the right and left hands; maximum frequency of the hand grip in the impulse mode with the left hand; shoulder width; circumference of the shoulder, forearm, thigh and lower leg. Athletes of percussion martial arts were characterized by large values of the shin length. The amplitude of abduction and adduction in the right wrist joint, the amplitude of abduction in the left wrist joint was greater in the wrestlers. Athletes of percussion martial arts had a large amount of extension of the left wrist joint, flexion of the right elbow joint, extension and abduction of the right shoulder joint. Conclusions. Analysis of morphofunctional indicators of athletes of various types of martial arts confirmed the specific effect of the sport on the body of athletes. The features that are the factors of success are highlighted. For wrestlers, these include hand strength in various modes. It allows to implement quickly and efficiently grip. This is the basis for a successful wrestling technique. Sufficient development of the muscles of the limbs ensures the execution of throws in wrestling. The lengthened calf size contributes to a more effective kick in martial arts. Goniometric features of movements reflect the possibility of high-quality gripping, striking or blocking. The used morphofunctional indicators can be applied to predict the success of athletes in various types of martial arts.
To develop a methodology for predicting success in artistic swimming based on a set of morphofunctional indicators and indices, 30 schoolgirls, average age (12.00 ± 0.22), were divided into two groups. Group 1: 15 athletes, training experience 4–5 years. Group 2: 15 schoolgirls without training experience. For each participant, we determined the length and weight of the body, the circumference of the chest, vital lung capacity, and the circumference of the biceps in a tense and at rest. The Erisman index, biceps index, and the ratio of proper and actual vital lung capacity was calculated. Them, we conducted the Stange and Genchi hypoxic tests, and flexibility tests for “Split”, “Crab position”, and “Forward bend”. Prediction was conducted using the Wald test with the calculation of predictive coefficients and their informativeness. A predictive table containing results of functional tests and indices of artistic swimming athletes is developed. It includes nine criteria, which informativeness varied in the range of 395.70–31.98. The content of the prediction consists of evaluating the results, determining the appropriate predictive coefficient, and summing these coefficients before reaching one of the predictive thresholds. The conducted research allowed us to substantiate and develop a method for predicting the success of female athletes with the use of morphofunctional indicators and indices.
Background and Study Aim. Purpose of the research: analysis of the influence of health-improving fitness classes of various orientations on the degree of fat deposition in women of the second mature age. Material and Methods. Participants: group 1 – 40 women, (43.33 ± 0.93) years, group 2 – 25 women, (44.40 ± 0.93) years. The participants trained for 8 months, three times a week for 1 hour. Group 1 – classes in dance aerobics (Monday), strength fitness (Wednesday) and stretching (Friday). Group 2 – stretching only. Before the start and after the end of the program, the body weight and length were determined, the degree of fat deposition using a calipermeter at 17 points, the body mass index was calculated. Results. In group 1, there was a significant decrease in body weight, BMI, a decrease in the thickness of skin and fat folds at all points. In group 2, a significant decrease in body weight, BMI, a decrease in the thickness of folds at 13 points in 60-96% of participants was established. At the end of the study, group 1 had a smaller size of the folds of the thighs and left forearm compared to group 2. Regular exercise leads to a decrease in body weight BMI, a decrease in body fat. Complex classes have a more pronounced effect compared to stretching. This type of training is more effective in terms of the dynamics of the criteria used and the number of participants with the established changes. The sessions provided an increase in the number of persons with a normal BMI and a decrease in the number of obese participants. Conclusions. The applied indicators and methods can be recommended for use in health monitoring in health fitness.
Background and Study Aim: Special physical preparedness of wrestlers is one of the main factors for achieving the highest possible results in competitive activity. Physical qualities can differ significantly among wrestlers of the same skill level, but different individual styles. In this regard, this study is aimed at improving the methods of special physical training of qualified wrestlers, taking into account individual styles of wrestling. Material and Methods: The study involved 30 wrestlers of middle weight categories (72 kg, 77 kg, 82 kg). The participants were divided into two groups: control group - 15 athletes, average age (18.96±1.09) years, average weight (76.27±5.58) kg; experimental group - 15 people, average age (19.07±0.95) years, average weight (75.87±5.68) kg. All participants belonged to athletes of a high level of skill. Training tasks were developed to improve the methodology of special physical training of wrestlers, taking into account the styles of wrestling. The proposed program was tested in a pedagogical experiment that lasted one year. Significance of differences between groups was assessed using nonparametric signs (z) and Rosenbaum (Q) tests. Results: during the experiment, the increase in the results of special physical preparedness among the wrestlers of the experimental group is much higher in all tests and it is in the range from 6% to 14%, and in the control group it is lower - from 2% to 3%. Also, these results were confirmed by a non-parametric criterion of signs. So, the wrestlers of the experimental group at the end of the experiment showed an improvement in performance. A significant increase in the results in the «Pull up» test was shown (z=1; p<0.01). The time to complete the tests significantly decreased: «10 back arch throws» (z=0; p<0.01), «10 suplexes» (z=0; p<0.01), «Flips on the gymnastic “bridge”» (z=0; p <0.01), «Running on the wrestling “Bridge”» (z=0; p<0.01), «10 forward somersaults» (z=0; p<0.01), «Three series of 15 back arch throws» (z=3; p<0.05). The number of repetitions in the tests increased: «Pull-up in 20 s» (z=4; p>0.05), «Push-up in 20 s» (z=4; р>0.05). Conclusions: The fulfillment of the developed training tasks by the wrestlers of the experimental group made it possible at the end of the experiment to show significantly better results in terms of special physical fitness than the athletes of the control group (p<0.05-0.01). Such results testify to the effectiveness of the proposed methodology and the possibility of its implementation in the training process.
