Introduction: The athletic potential of athletes depends on functional condition parameters. They determine physical and mental performance. Their evaluation is part of the athletes’ condition monitoring in many sports. The purpose of the study was the comparative analysis of the athletes’ functional condition in cyclic and situational sports. Materials and methods: The study involved 31 students from specialized sport school aged 16-17. The participants were divided into two groups depending on the sport: 1st group - 20 martial arts athletes (Greco-Roman wrestling, freestyle wrestling, judo), 2nd group - 11 water sports athletes (swimming). The level of sportsmanship was Candidates and Masters of Sports. The following tests were applied: determination of the individual minute duration (IM) (s), measuring of a 10 cm segment, (cm), and determination of simple hand-eye coordination (SHEyC), (s), and simple hand-ear coordination (SHEaC), (s), “Figures memorizing” technique, solution of 10 sums. Results : The IM test results reflect the predominance of earlier completion of the test. This tendency more expressed in martial arts athletes. The results of measuring a segment were lower in all tests in the 1st group and in 9 tests in the 2nd group. The vision reaction in 4 tests out of 10 was better in martial arts athletes. The response to the auditory stimulus in 5 tests out of 10 and the average result was better in martial arts athletes. The results of figures memorizing test were most often average. The swimmers memorize significantly fewer figures according to 3 tests. The results of the solution of sums were similar. Conclusions : The use of a battery test allows giving a comparative analysis of the functional condition of different sports athletes. The stability of IM test results indicates sufficient adaptation reserves of the participants. The analysis of the results of the measuring of segment test allows evaluating the ability to spatial orientation as an important for success quality in martial arts and water sports. The importance of the response rate for the success of both martial arts athletes and swimmers confirmed. The martial arts athletes’ results were significantly better. This confirms their ability to concentrate, to stay focused longer. The results allow considering the response rate to an auditory stimulus as an important indicator for predicting success. The figures memorizing test also reflects the specificity of sports. It illustrates the ability of athletes to control the environment, manage the situation. This ability is significantly better in martial arts athletes. The dynamics of solving sums results suggest some complexity with a long focusing on the swimmers and better parameters in martial arts athletes. The simplicity, accessibility and informative nature of the used tests suggest their use in the athletes’ functional condition monitoring.
Background and Study Aim. In the basis of the boxer's power qualities is the ability to perceive and process external information. Therefore, in order to ensure the proper training of qualified boxers, there is a need to monitor the functional state of the boxer’s organism. The relationship between cognitive functions and special working capacity of elite boxers were studied. Material and Methods. The level of special working capacity was studied by the test of punching a boxer for 8 s at maximum speed. Cognitive functions (verbal and nonverbal intelligence, and word memory) were studied using the "Multipsychometer-05" hardware-software. 26 elite boxers, aged 18-24, were tested. Results. The research results showed that groups of boxers with different levels of special working capacity differ in terms of accuracy and efficiency when performing a cognitive task with verbal stimuli. The resulted that the high level of special working capacity of elite boxers is provided by the manifestation of verbal intelligence. Besides, the special working capacity is related with activation of mental functions of attention, speed of visual perception, operational and logical thinking. At the same time, significantly higher values of decision latency in this group of boxers indicate a slowdown in the processing of nonverbal information in boxers with a high level of special working capacity to work. It can be noted that the special working capacity of boxers has a direct relationship with quality and inverse relationship with the speed of information processing. The speed of memorizing verbal information is better in boxers with a high level of special working capacity. This fact indicates the importance of the verbal factor for the assimilation of special information in the training of boxers. The best values of accuracy and efficiency indicate the relationship of special working capacity in skilled boxers with the quality and volume of memorized verbal information. Conclusions. The special working capacity of elite boxers has a direct relationship with quality and inverse relationship with the speed of information processing. The elite boxers with a high level of special working capacity have a better speed of verbal information memorizing.
Introduction: The purpose of the study was to analyze the psychophysiological characteristics of football players and water sports athletes as factors of professional selection. Materials and methods: The study involved students of a specialized sports school (n = 31, age: 16-17 years). The participants were divided into two groups: group 1 – 20 football players, group 2 – 11 water sports athletes (swimming). The level of sportsmanship is 1 category, Candidates and Masters of Sports. Tests applied: determination of the duration of an individual minute (IM), measuring of a 10 cm segment (SM), determination of simple hand-eye coordination (SHEyC), and simple hand-ear coordination (SHEaC), the technique of “Figures memorizing”, solution of 10 sums. Results: The results of the IM test reflect the prevalence of the earlier test completion. All participants indicated a lower value in 9th test of a segment measuring. The results of the SHEyC and SHEaC of the participants were similar. The results of all tests were less than 10 in the test of “Figures memorizing”. Football players revealed link between coordination and psychophysiological tests results, while swimmers revealed link between coordination and sensory type of tests. Conclusions: The carried out psychophysiological analysis of athletes’ condition of team sports and water sports confirmed the possibility of applying these tests for selection. The results obtained reflect the specific influence of the sport on the athletes’ bodies. These indicators demonstrate the increased requirements for spatial orientation, the importance of reaction to auditory stimuli and the increased ability of football players to control the surrounding space and control the game situation.
Achieving and maintaining sustainability as well as creating legacy to be best utilized in future is a challenging and at the same time generous objective for any country and any institution. The legacy concept development by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) was further advanced through the Olympic Games Impact (OGI) project and is now efficiently governed and its execution observed by the IOC Sustainability and Legacy Commission. Most nations and institutions related to sports and physical education supported this movement to assist spreading the legacy of the Olympic Games to advance the promotion of sports for all, so that vast majority of population gets an opportunity to become more physically active, and/or to get involved in sports activities. The objectives of this editorial were on one hand to project the National University of Ukraine on Physical Education and Sport (NUUPES) activities aimed at improving sustainability and legacy in sport; and on the other hand, to highlight the outcomes and proceedings of the 4th International online conference “Sustainability and Legacy in Sport: Challenges and Perspectives” which was held on 26-27th November 2020 in Kyiv, Ukraine. This conference was as well the part of NUUPES activities aimed at further improving sustainability and legacy in Sport. Special thanks to Sport Mont for providing a platform for publishing the conference scientific papers in this Special Issue of the journal.
