The aim of the article was to determine the current state of the ideological basis of the Russian-Ukrainian war of 2014-2022. The purpose was to achieve a scientific reflection on the historical and civilizational foundations of the Russian-Ukrainian war of 2014-2022, with a key focus on the distorted facts of the past. The presentation of the research results is carried out on the basis of the chronological method. The main sources of the work are written historical evidence (Hypatian Chronicle and Chronicle of Thietmar of Merseburg, etc.). In addition, the problem of the main historical and political origins of the divergence between the Ukrainian and Russian peoples, the features of the formation of Asiatic-type despotism in Russia and the problem of Eurocentricity of Ukrainian territories over the centuries were considered. In conclusion, it is summarized that the simplified schemes of interpretation of the history of Ukrainian and Russian peoples became the main feature for the Russian, anti-Ukrainian propaganda in the period of 2014-2022. On the basis of distortion of historical facts and financial opportunities poured into the information sphere, the old Soviet and imperial myths are actively replicated in Russia.
The article is devoted to the study of the construction of historical memory in the Ukrainian SSR by means of monumental art. The relevance of this problem in the context of Russia's hybrid war against Ukraine is emphasized, in which the existence of the Soviet model of historical memory in society has long been the subject of manipulation and serves the purpose of justifying aggression against our state. Since the narratives of historical memory require external manifestation in works of art and the creation of appropriate places of memory, the latter often become important components of state propaganda for the creation of a single concept of collective memory. Therefore, the main task of the study was to show the role of monumental art in the context of memory politics in Ukraine during the Soviet era and the mechanisms of its transformation into a means of Soviet propaganda. In the research process, the methods of content analysis of archival documents and art analysis of monuments of Ukrainian monumental art of the second half of the 20th century were used. As a result, it is proven that in Soviet Ukraine, monumental art turned into an important element of state propaganda, which aimed to create such a concept of collective memory, which would be included in the general structure of communist ideology and justify the existing socio-political system. Most of the works of monumental art were aimed at building a certain cult, primarily the cult of work and the cult of achievements of the Soviet government, the cult of the "primacy" of Soviet people in certain spheres. Around the greatness of past victories, which were the foundation of the image of historical memory, it was easier to unite a large number of people and form a new Soviet identity. Directing the creative energy of Ukrainian artists to the service of Soviet ideology became possible thanks to the establishment of totalitarian control over Ukrainian artists by state institutions, which often completely destroyed the original authorial concept of the works, but turned them into an effective means of forming a distorted construct of a collective perception of the past.
The late XIX century was marked by the rise of industry in the Russian Empire. This period was characterized by shifting the core of industrial development from the Ural region to the south of the country, associated with the development of abundant coal deposits in Ukraine, and accompanied by extensive railroad construction in the central and southern parts of the Russian Empire. This aspect spurred the expansion of machine-building industries under the protectionist economic policy of the Russian Empire's government toward Russian enterprises. It was aimed at shielding them from the influence of foreign competitors. In the early 1870s, Kharkiv started growing rapidly as a major industrial hub in the south of the Russian Empire. The railroad offered an opportunity for the delivery of the most advanced equipment and technology, something that foreign companies never failed to take advantage of. In the 1890s, transport machinery gained significant development. Since 1891, the monopoly on steam locomotive construction in the Russian Empire, which had been concentrated in the 1880s at the Kolomna Locomotive Plant alone, was disrupted. In the mid-1890s, steam locomotive construction was deployed at eight major machine-building enterprises of the Russian Empire. This article is intended to provide a thorough analysis of the background of the creation, further development, and establishment of the Kharkiv Locomotive Plant. It offers an overview of different stages throughout the history of the Kharkiv Locomotive Plant. This article discusses the conditions and prerequisites for choosing the location of the plant; considers the stage of the establishment (foundation) of the plant; examines the stage of plant construction and equipping it with technological facilities in detail; analyzes the development and establishment of the plant between 1897 and 1914. A brief analysis of locomotive designs produced by the Kharkiv Locomotive Plant from 1897 to 1914 has been made. The article shows the significance of Consultative Congresses of Traction Engineers for the development of railway machinery both at Kharkiv Locomotive Plant and for the entire railway industry.
