Auffällig ist weiterhin die schon erwähnte überraschende ‚Ausdünnung' der letzten Kapitel, von denen der Leser die angekündigten Ergebnisse der korpusstilistisch und kognitionswissenschaftlich basierten Untersuchungen erwartet hatte.Die Orientierung an den trügerischen Verheißungen kognitivistischer und korpusstilistischer Ansätze und eine sprachtheoretisch-philosophische und wissenschaftstheoretische ‚Enthaltsamkeit' führten Ralph Müller zu einer materialreichen und gut gemeinten, letztlich aber extrem positivistischen textwissenschaftlichen Position. Um es ‚jargonträchtig metaphorisch', also nicht wirklich ‚kreativ metaphorisch' zu formulieren: Zur Schleifung dieser kognitivistisch-korpusstilistischen Sandburg der empirischen Literaturwissenschaft braucht man keine Kavallerie zu schicken.
Das Interpretieren von Texten -verstanden als ein Sprechen oder Schreiben über Texte, in dem ihnen auf methodische und argumentierende Weise Bedeutungen zugeschrieben werden -gehört weiterhin zu den Haupttätigkeiten von Literaturwissenschaftlerinnen und -wissenschaftlern. Die vielfältigen Infragestellungen und teils polemischen Angriffe, denen das Interpretieren in den vergangenen Jahrzehnten ausgesetzt war, haben an diesem Umstand kaum etwas geändert. Ein großer Teil der neu erscheinenden Forschungsarbeiten hat zumindest partiell interpretierenden Charakter; in der literaturwissenschaftlichen Lehre haben Einführungen in das Interpretieren lyrischer, dramatischer und narrativer Texte einen festen Platz, was sich auch in Neuauflagen oder Neuerscheinungen entsprechender Einführungsbücher niederschlägt; regelmäßig erscheinen neue Sammelbände mit Interpretationen der Werke einzelner Autorinnen und Autoren sowie Sammlungen von Modellinterpretationen.Angesichts dieser fortdauernden Prominenz des Interpretierens im Alltag der Disziplin erscheint auch die Reflexion auf diese Tätigkeit als eine Aufgabe von unverminderter Aktualität. Der vorliegende Band will zu dieser Reflexion beitragen und legt dabei den Gedanken zugrunde, dass das literaturwissenschaftliche Interpretieren aus drei Perspektiven betrachtet werden kann, die durch die Titelbegriffe "Theorien", "Methoden" und "Praktiken" bezeichnet werden. Das Interpretieren literarischer Texte ist erstens stets durch explizite oder implizite theoretische Annahmen geleitet: durch Annahmen über Sprache und Bedeutung, durch Autor-und Leserkonzepte und durch Auffassungen über die Spezifika, die literarische von nicht-literarischen Texten unterscheiden. In einer deskriptiven Betrachtungsweise können die bestimmenden theoretischen Prämissen existierender Interpretationen rekonstruiert werden, während prä-skriptiv orientierte Untersuchungen Auffassungen etwa über Bedeutung, Autor und Literatur entwickeln können, die wohlgeformte Interpretationen berück-sichtigen sollten.
