Despite the substantial amount of publications connected with the notion of DN, there are still some unexplored aspects that can provide new insights and approaches to the study of DN that demand relevant conceptions within the framework of cognitive linguistics with a special emphasis on the acquisition of double negatives in English and Ukrainian. It is useful to grasp how the notion of negation and its particular type DN have developed as a linguistic, social, and cognitive phenomenon, and thus have long attracted attention of scholars who are interested in and concentrate on this issue. Furthermore, this linguistic interest, which is not restricted to one particular language, reveals the relevance of the topic from the perspective of SLA.
